Dear Reading High School Families,

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you and your child to Reading High School for the 2026-2027 school year! The beginning of the school year is one of our favorite times and we can’t wait to embark on a new year full of relationship building, excellent academic and extracurricular experiences, and personal growth.

Our teachers and staff are ready to greet all incoming students and make our high school students feel welcome and excited to learn. At Reading High School, our goal is to provide a high-quality education in a welcoming school environment where everyone feels safe, cared for, appreciated, and understood. We believe all students can achieve at high levels when given the appropriate support. We are committed to ensuring every student has access to everything they need to be successful.

We’ve collected important back-to-school information in this letter. All information, and more, is available on our website at www.readingsd.org/page/back-to-school-information. We encourage you to explore our website, follow us on social media, and familiarize yourself with important dates and requirements that will help us all achieve a successful start to the school year!

Student Cell Phones Student Cell Phones

Students are permitted to possess cell phones while on Reading School District property. However, students are solely responsible for the safekeeping of the device. Additionally, students must keep their personal devices silenced and out of sight at all times during instruction. Upon arrival to class, students are expected to place their cell phone in a signal free case to eliminate distraction to the learning environment in order to promote academic and social-emotional success. Please reinforce the fact that cell phone usage during instruction is unacceptable and prohibited with your child prior to the school year.

Mandatory School Immunizations Mandatory School Immunizations

Pennsylvania state law mandates that every child must be fully immunized to attend school, and if students do not meet the requirements, they are not allowed to attend school. The state encourages all families to schedule an appointment with their child’s pediatrician this summer to discuss necessary vaccines and get proof of immunization.

To help our families meet immunization requirements, Reading School District is hosting free summer and fall vaccine clinics! Spots are limited. Please see the list of required vaccines on our website: https://www.readingsd.org/page/immunization-information. Your child’s school nurse will contact you if your child needs vaccines and may assist you with scheduling a vaccine clinic appointment.

Communications Communications

Our school website is www.readingsd.org/o/rhs.

We use Remind to communicate directly with students & families, and the school district uses Apptegy and the RSD Mobile App to communicate with families on a regular basis, including emergencies.

You will receive more information about how to connect with your child’s teacher and our school during our Open House (Thursday, August 20).

Please make sure your address, phone number, and contact information are kept up-to-date in Home Access Center throughout the school year. We want to make sure you receive all important communications from RHS and the District.

If you have any questions prior to the start of the school year, please contact our main office at 610-371-5705, visit our website www.readingsd.org/o/rhs or visit the District’s Back To School information page at https://www.readingsd.org/page/back-to-school-information.

I look forward to building a strong partnership with you. Together we can ensure your child achieves great success and has a wonderful school experience during the 2026-2027 school year!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Jessica Di Blasi, Principal

Parent Right to Know Information-2026/2027 School Year Parent Right to Know Information-2026/2027 School Year

June 30, 2026

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Your child’s school receives Federal Title | funds to assist students in meeting state achievement standards. This letter lets you know about your right to request information about the qualifications of classroom staff working with your child and information about student assessments given during the school year.

Title | schools must meet federal regulations related to teacher qualifications as defined in the ESEA (Elementary and Secondary Education Act). These regulations allow you to learn more about your child’steachers’ training and credentials. At any time, you may ask:

  • If the teacher meets state qualifications and certification requirements for the grade level and
  • subject, he/she is teaching
  • If the teacher has received an emergency or conditional certificate through which state
  • qualifications were waived
  • What undergraduate or graduate degrees the teacher holds, and major(s) or area(s) of
  • concentration.
  • Whether your child receives help from a paraprofessional, and if so, his/her qualifications

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) which was signed into law in December 2015 and reauthorizes the ESEA, contains additional parent right to know requests, including:

  • Information on policies regarding student participation in assessments/procedures for opting out
  • Information on required assessments including:

  1. subject matter tested
  2. purpose of the test
  3. source of the requirement (if applicable)
  4. amount of time it takes students to complete the test
  5. time and format of disseminating results

All the above information can be requested through your school principal. Reading School District staff is fully committed to helping your child develop the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in school and beyond. We appreciate your support and partnership as we work to provide the best education for your child.

Sincerely,

Andrew Ogot

Director of Federal Programs
