Dear Families,

The FOWE potluck was such a pleasure - delicious food and time for relaxed conversations. I thoroughly enjoyed the chance to see parents, children, grandparents and recent alums altogether. It’s always fun to watch how immersed everyone becomes as they add their preferences to 2/3’s data collection posters. Thanks to Erin and Alison for pulling the event altogether and everyone else who helped with the setup and cleanup. We’re off to a great start and look forward to several upcoming FOWE events.

Middlebury College students: The four students in the Education Studies math methods course with Professor Tracy Weston are working in the K/1 class once a week for the next 4 weeks to learn about math teaching and learning. They will join the 4/5 class later in the term. Additionally, two of the students will be doing field placements in the 4/5 and K/1 classrooms throughout the semester. During the winter term all four students will be in residence at the school for the month of January as part of the literacy/social studies methods course that I teach.

802 Smiles Dental Hygiene Program: This dental program is returning this Fall to offer free dental screenings and preventative care to all ACSD students. Please complete the forms below by September 22, if you would like your child to participate. You can access the forms here.

Lunch help: We need a volunteer for Thursday only next week! We welcome and need lunch volunteers each week day from 11:00-12:00ish. It’s a lovely way to see many of the children and an invaluable support to the meals program. If you would like to volunteer please sign up on this calendar. The next several weeks are already filling up, but there are still days not covered. If you can look ahead and sign up through October it would be greatly appreciated.

Notes:

  • We have begun getting several volunteer applications in. All volunteers need to submit an application in order to get the required background check.
  • Volunteers need to sign in/sign out in the front office and get a guest ID. This is required in all ACSD schools. Please be sure to return the ID when you sign out.
  • Lunch time is a planned part of the day’s instructional program, so not a time to drop by your child’s classroom. Thanks.

Information packets: If you haven’t already sent in the information packet distributed the first day, please do so as soon as possible. It is particularly important for us to have health forms and emergency contacts on file.

Please email me cjohnston@acsdvt.org or call if you have any questions (802-545-3301).

Have a lovely fall weekend. Christina
