Sea Gate ScoopJanuary 2026 Parent Newsletter

Dear Seahorse Families,

Happy New Year! I hope you enjoyed a joyful and restful holiday season. As we step into 2026, I want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible first semester we’ve shared. Your children have shown tremendous growth, curiosity, and resilience, and we want to build on their accomplishments.

The second half of the school year is full of opportunities, and we’re excited to watch their continued growth. Our theme for this school year continues, our students and teachers are “Making Waves" in learning, in leadership, and in kindness. Together, we’ll encourage students to think big, take positive action, and create ripples that inspire others.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support. Let’s make this semester one to remember!

Warm regards,
Ms. Kirby

Safety and Security

As reminder to all our guests, you must have a valid US Government issued ID when coming into school. Please ring the doorbell on the right side of the doors. Each visitor must present their identification before entering the building, please do not hold the door open for another guest. Thank you for helping keep our school campus safe.

Progress Monitoring 2 State Testing Progress Monitoring 2 State Testing

Welcome Back Seahorses! I hope your families had the opportunity to relax and refresh over the winter break. As we settle back into our routines, we kindly remind families that all electronics should remain powered off and stored away during the school day. Please also keep new toys and games at home, as they can become distractions and may get lost or damaged at school.

Our upcoming PM2 State Testing will take place on the scheduled dates below. Please help ensure your child is set up for success by making sure they:

  • Get a good night’s rest before each testing day
  • Arrive to school on time
  • Come to school and ready to do their best

Thank you for helping us create a focused, calm, and successful learning environment for all our students to maximize instructional time. We’re excited for a great start to the new year!

School Counselor's Corner

Happy New Year, SGE Families! I hope you all enjoyed everything that the holiday season brings...relaxation, joy, and lots of family memories. A very heartfelt thank you to our Sea Gate community who participated in our Angel Tree list this year. We made the holidays brighter for 72 SGE students. Thank you to our amazing parent volunteers especially Susan Brown, our parent donors, our PTO, and St. William Church for making the holidays that much brighter! We couldn't have done it without you. If you think you may need to be part of our Angel Tree or would like to donate next year, please do not hesitate to contact me privately. We also had a very successful PBIS Day in the Candy Cane Forest. Thanks to our parent volunteers, Related Arts team, and faculty volunteers for making this day so magical for our students.

Our Seahorses will start the new year by reviewing our PBIS school-wide expectations (Be Safe, Be Responsible, and Be Respectful) and our procedures as we get into our routine after the long break. The character trait of the month is Self-Control. We are focusing on pausing and thinking before acting rather than being impulsive. Some strategies include our traffic light (Stop, Think, and Act) and pausing, relaxing our body, and taking a deep breath before making a decision. You can help reinforce self-control at home by encouraging routines, modeling calm problem-solving, and praising your child when they show patience, responsibility, or thoughtful decision making. Thank you for partnering with us as we help students grow into confident, respectful, and self-aware learners.

Looking forward to a beautiful semester together.

Happy New Year from the Media Center! I’m so excited to start the second half of the school year, talking to students about what they read over the break. I love hearing about new books from our students and seeing the joy when they tell me about their favorite book they read while we were away.

January means it’s time to celebrate literacy! Keep an eye out for more information from Ms. Pelletier regarding Celebrate Literacy, Florida! Week, coming up January 26-30! Just like last year, our spring Book Fair will be in February. Keep an eye out for more information in the February newsletter.

Laptops

As we start the second half of the school year, I wanted to provide some reminders about laptop care:

  • Please remind your student to completely shut down their laptop, not just close the screen, every day. Have your student hold the power button and wait until all the lights are off before they close the screen. It’s surprising how many issues can be prevented by regularly shutting down the laptop.

  • Students should always transport the laptop IN THE CASE – between classes, to Technology class, everywhere they go

  • The only items in the case should be the laptop, charger, headphones, and wireless mouse (if they use one)

  • Students should not put their laptop in their backpack

  • Students should not put their laptop on the floor

  • Just like with library books, students should keep foods and liquids AWAY from their laptop

  • Students should make sure their laptop is fully on their table/desk – do not let it hang off the edge

  • Students should keep their charging cords close – cords are a tripping hazard

*If your student has a damaged laptop case, please have them stop into the media center to receive a replacement case. I have replacement cases available*

Students have been responsible for taking care of their laptops this year! We do understand that accidents happen and damage can occur to the laptop. Students are responsible for maintaining their devices, so if the laptop needs to be repaired, a fine will incur.

Laptop Replacement Part Cost:

Power adapter$ 48.00

Keyboard$ 95.00

Screen Touch/Non-Touch$ 231.00 / $ 117.00

Laptop Replacement $ 586.00
