Workforce, Employment and Apprenticeship Workforce, Employment and Apprenticeship

  • Students planning to pursue full-time employment after graduation are encouraged to look for a career rather than a job. A career allows you to use your work and life experiences to earn an income, while also allowing opportunities to advance.
  • Consider industries and jobs that are in high demand. They may lead to better long-term prospects.
  • Start thinking about what skills and traits you have that could be valuable for employers.
  • Begin drafting a resume that highlights your strengths, work experience, and any extracurricular activities.
  • Plan to attend a career fair in the Spring of your senior year. More information later.
  • If you need help with applications, see your school counselor.

Military Military

The military offers a wide range of opportunities including on-the-job training and skill development, long-term careers or valuable experience for civilian careers, funding for college, and more.

Military branches include Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and Space Force.

Students interested in joining the military should take the ASVAB. The ASVAB is a timed, multiple-choice test designed to evaluate your skills in 10 areas - general science, arithmetic reasoning, word knowledge, paragraph comprehension, numerical operations, coding speed, auto and shop information, mathematics knowledge, mechanical comprehension, and electronics.

The ASVAB will take place here, at BHS, on November 15th. Sign up in Counseling.

See the Counseling Office for more information on the ASVAB and knowing when military recruiters visit.

Gap Year Gap Year

While not very common, some students may choose to do a Gap Year. This is typically when students will work or travel after graduation before going back to school. Pros and Cons exist of taking a year off, so research your plans and talk with your family beforehand.
