You must apply for this exemption.

Melanie Jaramillo and Annaveah Garza attended the Region II FCCLA Conference and Competition last week in Waco. Annaveah attended leadership workshops and gained knowledge about the FCCLA national programs. Melanie competed in the Texas Proficiency contest, Mystery Basket, which mimics the television show Chopped. She was given red bell peppers, cap steak, red potatoes, and carrots to create an entree containing a starch, vegetable, and protein. She prepared a taco using a homemade tortilla with fajita steak, peppers, and onions on a bed of diced potatoes and julienne carrots. Melanie placed 4th out of 30 competitors and earned the right to compete at the State competition in April in Dallas.

Melanie Jaramillo also received an award for completing all five modules of Power of One, an FCCLA National Program that focuses on setting and reaching goals and developing leadership skills. She has worked over 150 hours of community service this year. Texas has also implemented a Rose Legacy Program this year which encourages members to increase their community involvement and establish personal leadership growth while striving for excellence in FCCLA. Melanie earned the White Rose Integrity Award, Leadership Legacy Award, and Red Rose Courageous Award.

Congratulations to our to our Leopard Thespians for their outstanding performance at the district OAP contest at Frisco Panther Creek! Kylie Stockwell was named to the All-Star Tech Crew! Charlie Norman was named to the Honorable Mention All-Star Cast! Timothy Foss was named All-Star Cast!

The team of Kayden Woods, Isabel Bentley, Chisam Weir, Molly Pyle, and Kinsley Nance qualified for the VR5 Regionals tournament at the Nancy Watten Technology Center in Irving, TX this past weekend.

They ended up in 17th place out of 30 teams! The top 6 teams will be going on to compete in the VEX Worlds Championships in Dallas, TX in May. We were very close in just our first year of VEX robotics at GISD!

Callisburg Elementary School reached out to us to observe our SIPPS (Systematic Instruction in Phonological Awareness, Phonics, and Sight Words) program in action this morning. Mrs. Dudenhoeffer gave them a brief overview on what it looks like on our campus and our instructional coach took them to observe a first grade classroom. We are all about growing readers together in Cooke county.
