Dear Wredling Families

One of my favorite things about middle school is watching our students start to find their voice. These are such important years for kids—they’re figuring out who they are, what they care about, and how to share their ideas with others. Middle school gives them a chance to explore, try new things, and meet new people, and it’s amazing to see how those opportunities help them grow.

This week, I want to give a special shout-out to our Wredling WredFeather, our student-created newspaper. The WredFeather is a wonderful example of student voice in action! Our young journalists work hard to share stories, ideas, and perspectives that matter to them and to our school community. It’s one of the many ways students can express themselves and make their mark at Wredling.

Between our clubs, organizations, athletics, and creative outlets like the WredFeather, our students have so many ways to get involved and discover their passions. These experiences not only build skills—they build confidence, connection, and community.

Thank you for encouraging your Redhawk to try something new, get involved, and share their voice. That’s what middle school is all about!

Reminders from the principal’s office:

Please reinforce with your students that all cell phones should be in lockers and off throughout the day. By reinforcing this policy along with us, we are communicating to our students that we prioritize their learning when they are at school.

In cases of sickness or not feeling well, all students are expected to visit our nurses where we follow protocols and communicate with families. Thank you for your continued partnership.

Proud to be a RedHawk

Mark your calendar – Upcoming Opportunity!

We have a special chance coming up for students: the next Wredling Academic Success Session: Saturday School is scheduled for Saturday, November 15 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

This session is designed for students who have five or more missing assignments (as of the Monday prior) and gives them focused time and support to catch up or get ahead.

Student Attendance Reminders

You may get occasionally receive a call and/or email for an unverified class period. There area several common reasons for this:
  • Student was late to class with a pass
  • Student was late to class without a pass
  • Their class had a sub
  • Student not in their PE line when they took attendance
  • Student on a field trip
  • Student meeting with someone in student services
  • Wednesday schedule class periods in different order
  • We are running an alternative bell schedule

Please know that we reconcile all absences on a period-by-period basis each day.

The vast majority are cleared by the end of the day and HAC is updated! At the end of the day, all absences we were unable to clear are then converted into unexcused absences.

NOTE: When questioning an absence or tardy for a single class period, you should contact that classroom teacher directly for clarification.

Our 6th-grade Exploring College & Careers class is seeking community members to visit and share about their career journey: what a “day in the life” looks like, what education or training is required, etc. If you are interested in volunteering as a guest speaker at either Thompson Middle School or Wredling Middle School, please complete this Google Form. We would love for our students to hear your story!

WMS Drop Zone

The WMS Drop Zone is a place where parents can “drop” off items that a student might have forgotten at home. Our goal is to maximize student learning time and reduce in-class interruption. The Drop Zone should be used infrequently. We want students to learn that there are natural consequences for forgetting items too often.

WMS Drop Zone Guidelines:

  • Students will not be called out of class for items brought to the school; they need to check the Drop Zone if they have forgotten an item.

  • All items must be labeled with the student’s name.

  • Expected Drop Zone items include: a project, instrument, uniform, or lunch. A good rule of thumb is if the item is important to the student’s health or learning.

  • Note: When phones are being dropped off for a student, they will be held in the main office until the end of the day.

We encourage students to be responsible for bringing everything to school that he/she will need for the day. Packing a backpack the night before can help with organization. The staff of Wredling Middle School is not responsible for any item left in the Drop Zone.

Help Us Collect ONE MILLION Pop Tabs!

We’re on a mission to collect one million pop tabs for Ronald McDonald House Charities, and we can’t do it without YOU (and your grandparents, cousins, neighbors, and carpool crew)!

Those tiny aluminum tabs from soda cans, soup lids, or sparkling water may seem small—but when we collect them together, they add up to real support for families with seriously ill children.

Here’s how to pitch in:

  • Save your pop tabs at home—and ask your grandparents, cousins, friends, and neighbors to do the same!

  • Bring them to school all year long.

  • Every tab brings us closer to our 1,000,000-tab goal!

Let's pull together and make a difference!
