A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL UNVERSAW A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL UNVERSAW

Dear Chapin Middle School Families:

Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year! We are excited to see returning and new students. Though I’m sure some are already missing summer break, students seem excited to be back at school.

Each grade level attended an Eagle Expectations assembly on Thursday. We talked about the importance of positive behavior and ways to be successful this school year. Your students were respectful and showed excellent manners during the assemblies. Give yourselves a pat on the back for raising such outstanding children!

For those of you who utilize bus transportation to or from school, thank you for your patience this week. We are working with the Transportation Office to ensure our students are safely taken home and in a timely manner. Actions we’ve already taken at the school level to improve bus dismissal for our students include the following:

  • proactively seeking accurate bus information, including rosters for each bus, from the Transportation Office so we can clearly communication with students and parents

  • calling for students by bus number as the buses arrive to reduce any confusion locating the correct bus and to decrease the amount of waiting time outside

  • holding students inside in a central location in the event of significant bus delays

Next week, CMS students begin iReady testing with the ELA assessment on Tuesday, August 18. We will be on an adjusted schedule, and most students will test with the Crew Time teacher. Please make sure your student gets a good night’s sleep, eats breakfast and comes to school with a charged Chromebook.

Our staff is working hard to finish creating student ID badges. These should be complete by the end of the week. We’ll expect students to wear these daily on a breakaway lanyard, which will be provided by the school. Students are welcome to purchase their own lanyard as long as it is “breakaway” style.

Enjoy the first weekend of the new school year. I look forward to seeing you at CMS in the coming weeks and months.

Kind regards,
Anna Unversaw
Principal

DRESS CODE REMINDER DRESS CODE REMINDER

Chapin Middle School dress code follows Board Policy AR-JICA-R. If a student does not meet expectations for dress code, a parent or guardian will be contacted to bring additional clothing for the student to wear. The student will remain in ISS until appropriate dress is provided. We appreciate your support and partnership in purchasing clothing that meets District Five dress code expectations.

  • Clothing and/or hair should not be so extreme or inappropriate to the school as to disrupt the educational process. Therefore, clothing deemed distracting, revealing, overly suggestive or otherwise disruptive will not be permitted. This includes bare midriffs, halter/tank tops, see through shirts, tops or blouses and bike shorts.

  • No vulgar, obscene or otherwise inappropriate symbols, language or wording will be permitted on clothing or accessories.

  • Clothing or accessories (i.e. bookbags, jewelry, hats, etc.) that display alcohol, tobacco or other drug symbols are not permitted.

  • Gang attire, gang colors or gang symbols are also not permitted to be worn or displayed on accessories.

  • Hats, head stockings or kerchiefs may only be worn during the school day for special occasions when approved by the principal.

  • Proper shoes must be worn at all times. (Bedroom shoes are not considered proper or safe.)

  • Special dress or costume may be worn during the school day for special occasions when approved by the principal.

Items that are disruptive to the goal of a focused learning environment will be confiscated from students and available for pick up in the Main Office at the end of the day.
