March 8, 2024
Last night was a beautiful evening celebrating our Confirmands. Spring is a special time for our Eighth grade students as they prepare for their last quarter at Holy Cross. Last night was one of the events that reminds us that our time with this precious class is soon coming to a close. As I reflect on our time together, I am overwhelmed with a sense of pride of the young adults that they have become. I look forward to celebrating them this last quarter.
As we start Spring Break, it is important to remember the value in teaching our children digital safety. Attached are great resources from our Screensanity including guides for Tik Tok, Snapchat and gaming from the training earlier this fall. Ensuring your children's digital safety is crucial, especially during breaks when they may have more unsupervised time online. Here are some steps to help keep your children digitally safe:
Open Communication
Set Clear Rules
Educate on Online Risks
Use Parental Controls
Monitor Social Media
Teach Responsible Online Behavior
Keep Devices in Common Areas
Set Up Family Accounts
Establish Tech-Free Times
Stay Informed
Teach Digital Literacy
Encourage Reporting
By combining these steps, you can create a safer online environment for your children and help them develop responsible digital habits. We strongly believe in a partnership with family, school and Church in helping keep our students safe and forming our children academically, socially and spiritually.
We have amazing news to share! Our very own Mrs. Kopp was selected for the prestigious National STEM Scholar Program! She is 1 of 10 national STEM Scholars who will be working with Western Kentucky University to develop creative Challenge Projects that will support student research in the classroom. We are so grateful for her dedication to provide the best science education for our school! Please help me in congratulating her for this accomplishment!
We hope you all have a wonderful Spring Break! Stay safe and have fun week!

SECRET MISSION FOR PARENTS
Dear Holy Cross Parent,
During the week of April 8- April 11, our 3rd-8th grade students will begin our state’s standardized test called KAP. This assessment is given to every Kansas student in grades 3rd-high school to assess their knowledge of Kansas standards in math and reading. By working together, we can help your child have a positive and successful testing experience.
We have a SECRET MISSION that requires your assistance to create a surprise for each student in our 3rd-8th grade classrooms. Our goal on the first day of testing is for students to walk into our classrooms and find words of encouragement waiting for them on their desks from the people that mean the most to them…their family! This is where you come in!
Included in with this letter you will find an envelope and notecard. Please write a note of encouragement to your child. This note is meant to help remind your child that they have a support team behind them, and that you believe in them.
Please complete this notecard by Thursday, March 28 at the latest. Just place the notecard in a sealed envelope with your child’s name on the outside of the envelope. Please remember this is a surprise activity, and the students have NO IDEA what is going on!
Lastly, with support from school and home, your child will have a great testing experience this year! Here are some suggestions that you can do to help your child succeed.
Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep
Have your child eat a healthy breakfast at home
Make sure your child arrives at school on time
(Some grade levels will start right at 8:00 a.m.)
Thank you for your support throughout this year and on this MISSION. We look forward to watching your child read this note of heartfelt words from their family. We know your words of encouragement will mean the world to them.
Thanks again!
