July 21-28, 2024

Good morning Cannon families,

I hope this first edition of our Cannon Connection Parent Community Newsletter finds you while you are in a cool relaxing place!

Next week, we welcome our new Kindergarten Cubs to experience our Kinder Camp! We ask that our new kinder scholars attend- Friday, August 2nd, from 9:00 am-Noon. Parents, please park in the front parking lot and walk your scholar to the front doors. We will invite all kindergarteners into the Learning Commons while you sign in at our front kiosks. Several of our rising 5th grade scholars will be on hand to help start mentoring our new Cubs! Parents are invited to mix and mingle to get to know each other in our Cafe during the student camp experience. We will have kindergarten spirit gear for sale for Cash or Check ONLY (Checks payable to Cannon Elementary). We will begin our Kinder Parent Meeting at 9:30am. We can't wait to see you then!

A little Texas heat and a summer vacation can't stop our Cubs! Thank you to the 5th grade GT LEADers, Mrs. Melanie Gable, and a Cannon mom that worked in our beautiful garden this summer. They harvested jalapeno and serrano peppers, tomatoes, purple potatoes, an onion and lots of basil and lavender. I can't wait to see what will grow and thrive in our Fall garden!

We welcome all staff back to Cannon on Monday, August 5, to start the school year.

2024-2025 is going to be filled with so much excitement and engagement connected to our PURPOSE, INNOVATION, and COMMUNITY! We are extremely excited to see all of our Cannon families at our MEET THE TEACHER Night FRIDAY, AUGUST 9th starting at 4:00 pm! Once PTA membership is open and available (After August 1), anyone with proof of Cannon PTA membership is welcome to enter with Fast Pass Access starting at 3:30.

We will welcome all Cannon Cubs Back to School on Wednesday, August 14, for our first day of school! The alarm clock will come quickly - prepare for the adjustment! Remember Cubs are tardy after 7:40.

Any parent or guardian wanting to walk their Cub in on the first day of school will have to have their Driver's License on hand and sign in to the security kiosks prior to entering the building; Please plan ahead! You are welcome to print your first day kiosk badge during our Kinder Camp, Meet the Teacher Night, or feel free to stop by between 8:00-3:00 on Monday, August 12 or Tuesday, August 13 to print your badge for quick entry! Per our amazing safety procedures, we will be checking badges and Driver's License so be ready 😊!

We look forward to partnering with you to make the 2024-2025 a STEMtastic school year!

Proud to be your principal,

Dr. Tina Garrett
