Assistant Principal's Message
Welcome Canaan Elementary Families,
I want to wish you a warm welcome to Canaan Elementary. We are looking forward to getting to know you and your child. It's going to be an amazing school year.
A big thank you to our custodial staff, Larry and Randy, who worked all summer getting our school ready for the school year! And a thank you to all the teachers and staff who spent time throughout the summer attending professional learning, teaching summer school, preparing their classrooms, registering new students and ordering supplies to assure a fantastic school year.
Also, thank you to all who participated in the open house. We loved meeting all of our students and their families. It's always one of my favorite nights.
If you will be dropping off your child this school year please try to have them at school between 7:30-8:05 am. Ideally, if your child will be eating breakfast, if you could drop them off at 7:30 am, that would allow them time to eat without missing any important academic time. Students dropped off after 8:15 am will be considered tardy. If you drop off after 8:05 or there is no one at the front door, please bring your student to the side door. We appreciate it!
When picking up your child, we ask parents to meet outside the gym door and we will dismiss students from the door at 2:15. We will have a dismissal sign out sheet that we will pass around.
If your child will not be at school, please call the office before 9 to ensure they are not marked as an unexcused absence. 7 unexcused absences or 5 consecutive school days of unexcused absences is considered habitually truant. Each and every school day is important to your child's academic success.
MSAD 54 requires all volunteers to apply to ensure the safety of our students. Please do this ASAP if you plan to attend a field trip or volunteer in the classroom, as the background check can take a few days. I appreciate your support and diligence on this.
We will be organizing a parent teacher group for our school. If you are interested in joining, please contact the school. We'd love to have your support!
Sincerely,
Erin Madore
Assistant Principal
Core Value of the Month - Courage
Each month Canaan Elementary students learn about a core value. These core values are essential for building good character and all point back to the BIG 3 - Treating others right, making smart decisions, and maximizing your potential. September's core value is courage. Courage is being brave enough to do what you should do, even when you're afraid.
Students will earn cougar slips if seen showing courage. Each month, we will draw one cougar slip and that student's classroom will win an extra recess! Teachers also pick 2 students each month to be the Core Value Student of the Month. These students will receive a certificate, a medal, and be invited to a pizza party with Mrs. Madore.
Every Student, Every Day!
Did you know...? Why Daily Attendance Matters:
Missed Lessons = Falling Behind: Even one day can mean missing critical instructions and activities, making it harder for your child to catch up.
Impact on Future Success: Consistent attendance is a strong predictor of academic achievement and future opportunities.
Building Resilience: Regular attendance teaches your child the value of perseverance and responsibility—essential skills for success in life.
Stronger Friendships: Daily presence helps your child develop and sustain friendships, which are crucial for emotional and social development.
Healthy Routine: Attending school every day establishes a stable routine, promoting better mental and physical health.
