Principal's Message
Dear Towson High School Community,
I am pleased to share that Towson High School has increased our percentile rank and total points earned on the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) 2024-2025 school report card. Further, we maintained our 4-star rating. This achievement is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and collaboration of our students, staff, and community.
Our continued success is particularly noteworthy in six of eight key areas: academic achievement, English learners making progress toward English proficiency, credit for a well-rounded curriculum, access to a well-rounded curriculum, chronic absenteeism, and the school survey for both students and staff. These accomplishments reflect our commitment to providing supportive and rigorous learning environments that prepare our students for the next stage of their academic and professional journeys.
As we aim to earn our 5th star, I invite the entire Towson High School community to join hands in our pursuit of excellence. Your support, involvement, and commitment are integral to our continued success. Together, we will build on our strengths, address areas for improvement, and ensure that Towson High School remains a beacon of educational excellence. Together we shine!
In partnership,
Dr. Kim Culbertson

BCPS Inclement Weather Plan
The Virtual Inclement Weather Day Plan applies to the 2025-2026 school year. When inclement weather is forecasted, BCPS leadership will monitor the weather forecast and families will be notified if BCPS will transition to virtual learning that day. Students will be reminded to take devices, chargers, and other instructional materials home. Staff will also be asked to prepare lessons and materials.
Course Registration for the 2026-2027 School Year
This week in Advisory, students in grades 9-11 began the course registration process for the 2026-2027 school year. All students in grades 9-11 completed a 4-year planning document and registration form.
During the month of December, all students will meet with a school counselor during English class. During these one-on-one sessions, students will finalize their course requests for next year.
In late January, students will receive a course verification form. These forms will list all courses that students are requesting for next school year. These forms will go home to parents/guardians to sign off on.
It is essential that the course registration process is taken seriously as we build a master schedule each year based on students' requests. If students' requests are inaccurate, then we cannot guarantee they will have the desired schedule next school year. Further information on course registration can be found on the Academic Planning website. Please email your/your student's school counselor with specific questions.

THS Performing Arts Department Presents Puffs - 11/20-11/23
For seven years, a certain boy wizard went to a certain Wizard School and conquered evil. This, however, is not his story. This is the story of the Puffs... who just happened to be there too. A tale for anyone who has never been destined to save the world, Puffs tells the untold story of the “other” students at a certain school of magic (the ones just trying to get by in the shadow of that famous boy wizard.) This fast-paced comedy is full of heart, laughs, and a reminder that being ordinary can still be extraordinary.

Student Supports & Resources
Students can receive extra support afterschool via Coach Class and Peer Tutoring. Coach Class is offered by each teacher, each week. Free Peer Tutoring is offered throughout the week by students and advisors of our national honor societies. All supports begin next week unless otherwise noted. BCPS also offers all high school students with free teen therapy through Talkspace.
Attendance Matters
Research has shown that attendance is a leading predictor of academic achievement and adult success. Students who find attending school important are more likely to attain goals like attending trade school, college, or getting a job. By showing up to school every day, students develop a positive work ethic and prepare for future success by developing healthy and productive habits.
Our attendance goals this year are for students to maintain at least a 94% attendance rate and to reduce chronic absenteeism. A student that misses 10% or more of school days in chronically absent. By missing just 2 days a month, a student will be chronically absent. Use the "Attendance Tracker" and "Parent Tips" below to support your student in maintaining satisfactory attendance. Additionally, we will send parents/guardians a "Weekly Attendance Report" each Friday afternoon so you can track your student's daily and period attendance.
Absent notes must be turned in within 5 days from the student returning to school. Please review the Towson High School 2025-2026 Operating Procedures document ("Attendance" section) for information on Absent notes, including how to submit them on FOCUS. Teachers are not required to provide makeup work for unexcused absences.
