What we are learning in . . .
Math🔢
As we approach the winter break, our 4th graders are wrapping up their unit on Data Analysis and beginning the exciting new unit on Geometry!
In Geometry, students will be learning to analyze and classify shapes based on their attributes.
Geometry Unit Topics
Here is a list of topics your student will be working on in the Geometry unit:
Lines and Angles
Triangles and Classification
Classifying 2D Shapes
Measuring Angles
We encourage you to talk with your child about the shapes and data you see in the real world!
Science🔬
As we approach the winter break, our students are beginning two exciting new units in Science: The Water Cycle and Weather!
In these units, students will explore how water moves through our environment and the difference between daily weather and long-term climate patterns. They will also learn about the Sun's critical role in driving these Earth processes.
The key skills we are covering are:
The Water Cycle:
Describe and illustrate the movement of water through the water cycle.
Explain the role of the Sun as a major source of energy in this process.
Weather and Climate :
Differentiate between weather and climate (e.g., weather is what's happening right now; climate is the average weather over time).
We encourage you to observe and discuss the weather and water outside with your child!
ELA📚
Our 4th graders have begun Bluebonnet Unit 5, focusing on the American Revolution. Students will explore the major events, key figures, and important ideas behind the colonies’ fight for independence through reading, discussion, and hands-on activities.
This unit also strengthens:
Reading Skills
identifying main ideas
using text evidence
understanding cause and effect
Writing
organizing their thoughts clearly
supporting their ideas with details
summarizing historical information in their own words.
I’m excited to see their curiosity and confidence grow as we move through this unit. Thank you for your continued support at home!
