Tech Spotlight - Featuring Our Help Desk!

Meet our Help Desk—a small but mighty team of eight dedicated analysts ready to support all 10,000+ amazing staff across the Division!

Consider us your go-to gurus for all things application support. Whether you're navigating PowerSchool, PowerTeacher, PowerTeacher Pro, SchoolZone, FMS, or Terminal Four, we’ve got your back. And if we don’t have the exact answer right away? Don't worry—we’ll put on our detective hats and track down the person who does!

When we aren't solving tech mysteries, you can usually find us snacking or passionately debating the city’s best food spots (we take our foodie status very seriously). We’re also massive fans of horror movies and spooky video games! In fact, we recently turned our teammate Long into a total horror buff after introducing him to Willy’s Wonderland. 🍿👻

Don't be a stranger—reach out whenever you need a hand, a fix, or just a really good restaurant recommendation!

Google Class Tools and Originality Reports

Starting in February 2026 Division staff now have access to Class Tools, a new ChromeOS app designed to enhance classroom management and learning for students using Division-managed Chromebooks. The app provides teachers with a suite of features to create a more focused learning environment. They can share content, provide live captions and translations, monitor student screens and manage device access. To learn more about this tool click here to read the staff instructions.

Also a quick reminder that teachers can enable Google Originality Reports when creating assignments in Google Classroom. This allows teachers and students to check Google Docs and Google Slides for authenticity compared to webpages and books on the internet, as well as student submissions within our Division. Operational Support for the Digital Assessment Platform (DAP)

Calling all users of the Vretta Platform! There are changes to the ongoing operational support for the Vretta Digital Assessment Platform starting this school year. The Digital Assessment Platform Troubleshooting Resource is being shared here to help users get needed support, from the most accurate source, in the most accessible way. Ongoing support is a collaborative effort, starting with the proactive information and learning materials, followed by readiness for personal troubleshooting, then connecting with various groups depending on the topic. Please share this resource with your staff teams to discuss school/catchment specific support strategies especially for exam administration days.

There is one specific troubleshooting issue noted at several schools. When students login an error message reports that the Vretta Assessment Lock Extension needs to be installed. The extension is in place but needs to sync with the latest ChromeOS update. Here are the suggestion actions: allow 10 minutes between starting the device and students logging into the platform. When the issue occurs refresh the device using the refresh key on the top row of the keyboard. If it persists restart the Chromebook and attempt the login sequence again.
