What Has Been Happening in Dr. Young's Classroom?
Our students have been busy creating, exploring, and building new skills across Spanish and ELA classes! In 6th grade Spanish, students are designing personal family albums, using their new vocabulary to introduce family members, share birthdays and ages, and describe personalities and appearances. It's been amazing to see their creativity shine as they build stories about real or imaginary families, all while practicing the verb SER and colorful adjectives! Check out these amazing projects created by Amelia, Callen, and Fisher! Jacob M-L. and Ashley have also created some really cool projects using posters!
In 7th grade Spanish, some students have taken a deep dive into culture by planning their own QuinceaƱera (or QuinceaƱero) celebrations. After researching traditions from Spanish-speaking countries, they've chosen themes, food, music, venues, and even designed invitations and formal wear for the big event. Their thoughtful connections to culture and celebration are inspiring! Check out these projects created by Suhri & Chase, Sara O. & Kenia H-C., and Nahomi & Marlee!
Other 7th grade Spanish students have been celebrating sports in Spanish. Students have picked a favorite sport, researched a famous athlete of Spanish-speaking heritage, and are practicing writing about where, when, and how they play different sports using weather and sports vocabulary. Their enthusiasm for sharing personal favorites will make for some great conversations (in Spanish, of course)! Check out this project by Brianna. We are looking forward to seeing more finished projects this week!
In 7th grade ELA, students are working on strengthening their storytelling muscles. We're continuing our journey with Code Talker, while also using creative picture prompts to write and share original stories aloud. Students are learning to stretch their sentences, add vivid details, and bring their ideas to life both on paper and in their spoken words.
It's exciting to watch students take risks, explore new ideas, and grow more confident every day!
We Celebrated the Best Administrative Professionals in the District on Wednesday
We celebrated Mrs. Shumate, Ms. Russum, and Mrs. Lesniak on Wednesday, April 23rd for Administrative Professionals' Day. These three ladies work tirelessly in our front office and library to support our staff and students, and we are VERY lucky to have them!

PSSA Testing Reminders
PSSA Testing began on Wednesday, April 23 with the English Language Arts assessments, an continues with Math testing on Monday, April 28, and concluding on Tuesday, April 29. Weāve reminded students that this is their opportunity to do their best and demonstrate all theyāve learned throughout the year.
As always, students may eat breakfast at school to ensure they are fueled and ready for the day. Please encourage your student to take advantage of this option, or ensure they eat a healthy breakfast at home.
We also ask that you remind your student to get a good nightās sleep before testing days to help them feel alert, energized, and focused.
A reminder from the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE): the use of electronic devices during PSSA and Keystone Exams is strictly prohibited. This includes cell phones, smartwatches, and any other devices capable of photographing, duplicating, or sharing test materials.
Violations of this policy can result in serious consequences, including:
-
The studentās test not being scored
-
The need to retake the entire exam
-
Potential disciplinary action
To ensure compliance, teachers will ask students to turn off their devices and hand them in at the start of each testing session. Phones will be stored in a clear box on the teacherās desk and returned only after testing is complete. If your student may have difficulty with this policy, we recommend they leave their device at home on testing days.
Thank you for your continued support as we encourage our students to show what they know and finish the year strong!
A Reminder About Body Sprays and Perfumes
As warmer weather becomes more consistent, weād like to kindly remind students and families about the importance of personal hygiene. Deodorants, body sprays, and perfumes should be applied at home before school or in locker rooms before games and practices.
Please note that sprays should not be used on buses, in hallways, or in classrooms, as they can cause allergic reactions and discomfort for others.
Thank you for your attention to this matter and for helping us maintain a respectful and healthy school environment.

April's PBIS Focus... Attendance
Students that remained safe, respectful and kind over the month of March by not being referred to the office for disruptive behavior, inappropriate language, fighting or a physical confrontation watched a movie in their WIN classes last Thursday. Students that did not meet that expectation went to the auditorium to complete an assignment with Mrs. Lamothe and Mr. Altland. The assignment focused on the right way to handle frustration and anger.
This month students are focusing on getting to school. There are 18 school days in April. Students that are in school at least 16 of the 18 days will be going outside for recess on Friday, May 2nd. We are hopeful that students will be in school to get the most they can of the reviews for our PSSA testing at the end of the month as well be present for the testing days.
Thank you for supporting this initiative!
