NEWS FROM MRS MCCLUE NEWS FROM MRS MCCLUE

Dear Families,

Condolences

It is with great sadness that the tragic news regarding the deaths of Jake and Callum Robinson was received. Jake and Callum’s mother, Debra Robinson was previously employed as a teacher at Our Lady of Good Counsel School. There are many members of our school community who may have had a connection with the Robinson family, and we extend our condolences to all those affected by their very sad passing, and continue to keep Jake and Callum, and their family in our prayers.

Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is a special time to celebrate the incredible women in our lives who nurture, love and guide us. As we honour our mothers, grandmothers, and caregivers, let’s remember the words of Marion C Garretty: “A mothers love is like a beacon, lighting up the future but reflected also on the past in the guise of fond memories”. Happy Mother’s Day for this Sunday to all the wonderful mothers in our community.

Please join us on Monday 13 May from 8am for a croissant and coffee. Please also stay to join us for the special Mother’s Day Prayer Assembly in the Church from 8.45am.

Cross-Country

The OLGC Cross Country Carnival is this Friday 10 May. The full schedule and details have been shared by Mrs Simone Hesse. Thank you to Mrs Hesse for all her efforts in organising the carnival, and for preparing our students in Sports classes and through running club.

After-school supervision

Parents are reminded that school finishes at 3.00pm and supervision of students is only provided at the rear carpark gate until 3.15pm.

Those parents who chose to remain for a social chat after-school and allow their children to play on school grounds, are asked to please ensure that they are actively supervising their children.

We ask parents to vacate the school grounds by 3.30pm at the latest. Whilst we are very keen to promote an active and vibrant school and parent community, for insurance purposes, non-school related social events should be held off-site. If you would like your children to continue playing after school, we suggest moving to a surrounding park such as the playground across the road at Prisk Reserve.

Many thanks,

Lisa McClue

CONFIRMATION WORKSHOP CONFIRMATION WORKSHOP

zoom_out_map

The recent Confirmation parent/child workshop was an inspiring and enriching experience for all who attended. Bringing together parents, guardians, and their children preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, the workshop fostered meaningful connections, provided valuable insights, and deepened their understanding of their faith journey. As we continue to prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation, let us carry with us the lessons and insights gained from the workshop, and let us continue to support one another on our shared faith journey. Together, as a faith community, we can embrace the challenges and joys that lie ahead and continue to grow in our love for God and one another.

ASCENSION OF THE LORD ASCENSION OF THE LORD

zoom_out_map

This Sunday we mark the Ascension of the Lord. This Solemnity commemorates the fortieth day after the Resurrection when Jesus ascended body and soul into Heaven and took His seat at the right hand of His Father. Traditionally, the location of the Ascension is believed to be less than a mile east of the Old City of Jerusalem. The position is marked by the Chapel of the Ascension, which is said to contain a miraculous imprint of the footprints of Christ before He ascended. The event of the Ascension is found in the Gospels and Acts (Mark 16:19–20; Luke 24:50–53; Acts 1:6–12) and marks the completion of Jesus’ earthly mission. We extend a warm invitation to all families to join us for Mass on Thursday 9th May at 9am as we commemorate this holy day together.

PENTECOST SUNDAY PENTECOST SUNDAY

zoom_out_map

On May 19th, we celebrate Pentecost Sunday, a momentous feast marking the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles and the birth of the Church. As we recall the outpouring of the Spirit, let us renew our commitment to live as witnesses to the Gospel, empowered by the same Spirit that ignited the hearts of the early disciples.

SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION

zoom_out_map

The Sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated at 8am on Sunday, May 19th at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. Our candidates have been preparing for this important step in their faith journey and the sacrament marks a pivotal moment as they affirm their commitment to Christ and His Church. We warmly invite all members of our parish family to join us in prayerful support as the candidates receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit and embrace a deeper relationship with God and the wider Church community.

Thank you.

PARKING AT DROP OFF AREAS PARKING AT DROP OFF AREAS

zoom_out_map
It is essential that parents adhere to road and street regulations when dropping off and collecting their child. It is a regular occurrence to see:

- Parents entering the staff carpark with their vehicle to drop off and pick up children

- Cars parked across the footpath on Miles Street

- Vehicles not giving way to children crossing outside the church drive-through

We do not want to have to engage the services of the CoS Rangers, however, we will be obliged to do this for the safety of our students if parents fail to adhere to safe driving and parking practices.

THE AGED CARE VOLUNTEER VISITORS SCHEME (ACVVS) THE AGED CARE VOLUNTEER VISITORS SCHEME (ACVVS)

zoom_out_map

The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) is a free service funded by the Australian Government, designed to support seniors living at home (and receiving a government funded Home Care Package) or those living in residential facilities. Ie, Moline House Karrinyup, Myvista Balcatta, Myvista Mirrabooka, Bethanie Gwelup etc

It has been running for over 30 years and helps isolated seniors increase their sense of purpose, belonging and maintain their social connections. A regular visit from a friendly caring volunteer can make a huge difference in their lives.

At Umbrella Multicultural Community Care, we focus on seniors from CaLD backgrounds who may not have any other relatives or friends to chat with in their language or dialect. As a mother of former students of OLGC, Eloise and Julian Loughnan, I understand there are many families from diverse backgrounds that attend the school - who may like to join this program and connect with a CaLD senior. We facilitate, manage and support this introduction and ongoing companionship.

Any questions please reach out to myself or my colleagues on 9275 4411.
