Principal Notes

Hello Dover-Eyota Families!

I hope you were all able to enjoy an extra couple of days last week. I am looking forward to being back to a normal week of school as we wind down the first quarter of the school year in the next couple of weeks.

We will have a Standard Response Protocol Drill on Wednesday this week at 1:00 with the focus on teaching Secure procedures to the students. As an example of something that would require us to put the building into a Secure response, would be any event happening outside of our building be it a robbery, an unstable person roaming the community, or some other event requiring a number of law enforcement personnel, we would go into our Secure procedures. For this, we would do a check of all exterior entry points ensuring they are locked and school would resume as normal inside the building. We would not have any activities going on outside, including recess, gym, or Nature Based Kindergarten at that time.

As with all of our drills you are welcome to not have your child participate in the drill. However, we do not have a quiet room where they will not hear what is going on, so if you wish to dismiss them from the drill we ask that you pickup and drop-off within a half an hour of the scheduled drill taking place, and they will be excused.

Have a great week!

Ben Midge

Class Parties

Our first class party for the year will be on Friday, October 30th. Your child's teacher will have specifics as far as times go for the party during the day. We ask that you please follow the approved procedures for this day in regards to classroom visits and providing treats. The big procedures we need followed are providing only what has been agreed to with the classroom teacher. Please do not add to the treat list, as those have not been approved and we need to ensure that allergies won't be an issue with food that is brought in. Food must have a label and be prepackaged. No homemade goods will be accepted, because of allergies that students may have. This is a student safety issue.

Secondly, please respect visiting the rooms to which you sign up for. Please don't room hop on this day. Also, if you are not signed up, please do not show up, we have the volunteer numbers where they need to be for each class, more adults while well intended, usually further congests the room and makes for some unplanned moments of uncertainty in the room.

I appreciate you adhering to these requests, so we know who is in our building and what is entering the classroom for food, so we can try to keep all students safe.

Lost and Found

Every quarter we like to do a cleanout of the lost and found. The end of quarter 1 is on November 6th. We will make a donation run shortly after that day. We will not donate coats that get turned in between now and then, but sweatshirts has become the big filler. Classrooms will drop by a couple of times in the next two weeks to look through the lost and found. I would encourage you to also stop by as it works if you know something is missing. Please check-in at the office first and we will get you a visitors sticker to head down to take a look at our lost and found.
