Giving Tuesday: Invest in Literacy

Literacy has always been the heart of your local library. For more than two decades, a dedicated group of volunteers has worked tirelessly to support the Danville Public Library. This membership organization has now grown into the Danville Library Foundation. We support library programs for all ages by seeking individual gifts and corporate sponsorships. We are dreaming BIG!

Although our foundation is only three months old, we are off to a great start with $9,000 in grant funds awarded for our Carnegie restoration project, and memorial gifts of more than $1,500 for the children’s activity room. Our goal is to fund all of the literacy based programming, engage our community, and ensure that our library continues to be a solid cornerstone of our community.

Our mission has never been more important. Due to recent legislative changes, the library will lose funding equal to 10% of its revenue next year. These cuts will directly affect the programs that make our library such a vital part of this community: programs that promote literacy, spark curiosity, welcome all ages, and bring people together. As fourth-grade student Rhys B. shared, “Programs like Lego Club and Stories with STEAM allow you to spend time with people in the community and make it a better place.” (Yes, he really is that articulate!) His mother, Timea, added, “The library opens up new worlds through both the books and the programs for kids, teens, and adults.”

The Foundation exists to ensure these opportunities continue to thrive. Your gift this Giving Tuesday helps keep storytimes, literacy-based programs, book clubs, and community events available to everyone who calls Danville home.
