It's a great day in San Angelo ISD! Our district has positive momentum in many areas and I am so proud of the work our teachers are doing in the classrooms each day. Academics are at the forefront of our work and we are getting stronger every day for you and your family.

Our bond construction is well underway at Crockett Elementary and McGill Elementary, with Fannin Elementary not far behind. Planning for Central, Lake View and Glenn are coming together and the work around the district will soon be in full swing. You can monitor the progress and get construction updates by visiting www.saisd.org and scrolling down to see the Bond Updates section.

Further, our Committee on Academics, Stewardship, and Efficiency (CASE) continues to meet and discuss viable options for rezoning our elementary schools. As we plan to close Reagan and Bowie Elementary Schools at the end of the 2026-2027 school year (May 2027), the rezoning of the remaining twelve elementary campuses is an important step. Beginning July 1, 2027, which is 15 months from now, we are planning to implement the new elementary attendance boundaries. The Board of Trustees will hear the recommendation of the administration and CASE committee this summer (2026) so that we can consider adopting the new attendance boundaries and communicating them to you and your family. Our goal is to provide you with one year of time to plan ahead and prepare for the rezoning process. New elementary boundaries will be implemented in the Fall of 2027.

San Angelo ISD is responding to the declining birth rates and additional options for parents that has triggered a decline in enrollment across the nation, Texas, and in San Angelo ISD. This is the driving force behind consolidating elementary campuses and reducing staffing. About 82% of our annual budget is used to pay our most valuable resource: our staff. As staffing levels change, employees who are eligible to return will continue to be employed in San Angelo ISD in positions aligned with their qualifications. We value our Difference Makers and remain committed to taking care of our own.

Finally, a heartfelt thank you to you and your family for the support and encouragement you show our staff. I am thankful to work with so many great families who want the very best for their children. Above all, students first!

Texas Safe Gun Storage Reminder

Texas law now requires school districts to distribute information to parents and guardians about the safe storage of firearms. This information will help you learn about options for, as well as how to talk to your child and others about, the safe storage of firearms.

It is unlawful to store, transport, or abandon an unsecured firearm in a place where children are likely to be and can obtain access to the firearm. Under Texas Penal Code 46.13, a person commits the offense of making a firearm accessible to a child if the child gains access to a readily dischargeable firearm, and the person with criminal negligence:

  • Failed to secure the firearm; or
  • Left the firearm in a place to which the person knew or should have known the child would gain access

The penalty for allowing a child access to a firearm can range from a Class C misdemeanor (punishable by a $500 fine) to a Class A misdemeanor (punishable by a $4000 fine, a year in jail, or a combination of the two).

Texas exempts the purchase of firearm safety equipment from Texas Sales and Use Tax.

Remember, a gun should be stored unloaded in a safe or locked container, with ammunition stored elsewhere. You can learn more and find additional resources from the Texas Department of Public Safety at https://safegunstoragetexas.com.

Illness Protocols for a Healthy School Environment During Cold & Flu Season

As we enter the cold and flu season, San Angelo ISD is committed to ensuring a healthy environment for all students, staff, and families. By following important illness protocols and working together, we can maintain a safe and productive learning space for everyone. Your cooperation is essential in supporting the well-being of our school community.

Children should only be in school when they can fully participate in their educational program. Therefore, children with the following should stay at home and or will be referred home by the nurse or other school personnel:

  • If a child has a fever over 100 degrees, parents must keep the child home until he/she is fever-free for 24 hours without the aid of medication.
  • If a child has diarrhea, parents must keep the child home for 24 hours after the condition ends. Diarrhea is 3 or more episodes of loose stools in a 24 hour period.
  • Vomiting (not related to an event such as gagging, positioning, mucus, running after eating, etc.) Students must be symptom free for 24 hours without medication before returning to school.
  • Pink/red eye(s) or purulent conjunctivitis (defined as pink or red conjunctiva with white or yellow eye discharge). The student must receive treatment for 24 hours before returning to school or be symptom free before returning to school.

By adhering to these guidelines, we can collectively contribute to a healthier school community and minimize disruptions to the learning process. Your cooperation and commitment to these practices are invaluable, and we appreciate your ongoing partnership in keeping our schools safe.

Safety Reminder: Use Extra Caution During Darker Morning Hours

A quick safety reminder for our community: With Daylight Saving Time now in effect, it may still be dark during the early morning hours when some students are walking to school. Parents are encouraged to remind children to stay alert while walking, and wearing bright clothing, reflectors, or walking with a friend can help increase visibility. Drivers are also asked to slow down and use extra caution in school zones. By working together, we can help keep our students and community safe.

Fort Concho Students Bid Farewell to Student Teachers from South Korea

Fort Concho Elementary recently celebrated a special farewell for ten student teachers from Gongju University in South Korea. For the eleventh year, Korean student teachers have visited San Angelo through an international partnership with Angelo State University.

During their time at Fort Concho, the student teachers worked alongside SAISD educators, built meaningful connections with students and shared valuable cultural experiences in the classroom. Their visit provided students with a unique opportunity to learn from and interact with educators from another part of the world.

San Angelo ISD is grateful for the time, care and perspective these student teachers shared with our students. We also thank ASU’s Center for International Studies for helping make this partnership possible year after year.

“Who Would Win? Tyrannosaurus Rex vs. Velociraptor?” Sparks Excitement at San Angelo READS! Book Giveaway

“Who Would Win? Tyrannosaurus Rex vs. Velociraptor” sparked excitement among Bonham Elementary fifth graders during the San Angelo READS! March book giveaway. Approximately 100 students gathered in the library to hear special guest reader Jeremy Bartz, Vice President of the Destination Marketing Organization, bring the popular nonfiction book to life.

As Mr. Bartz read aloud, students eagerly shared their predictions – nearly split on whether the T-Rex or Velociraptor would win – while engaging with fun facts about each dinosaur’s size, speed and strength. The interactive reading kept students fully engaged and excited throughout the event.

To celebrate the occasion, every fifth-grade student in San Angelo ISD received a new copy of the book to take home. San Angelo ISD extends sincere thanks to Mr. Bartz for volunteering his time and helping create a memorable experience for students.

Events like this highlight the impact of San Angelo READS! by placing high-quality books directly into students’ hands, building confidence, sparking curiosity and fostering a lifelong love of reading.

New Glenn Middle School

The project continues through design development, with the team refining the exterior design and overall campus layout. Plans include a central entry connecting administration and library spaces, with academic and athletic areas branching from that main spine to support clear circulation across the campus. Site planning is also addressing traffic flow, parking and campus access.

Lake View High School

Additional planning continues to improve parking, drop-off and bus circulation across the campus. Plans include expanded parking near the gymnasium, auditorium and mariachi hall on the west side, along with a dedicated bus loop on the east side designed to accommodate approximately eight buses. Covered walkways will connect academic buildings with CTE facilities, improving accessibility for students.

Plans are advancing for a new concessions and ticket booth facility serving the baseball and softball complexes. The building will include concessions, restrooms and official changing areas, and will be centrally located between the fields for easy access during events. The project also includes additional parking improvements to better support athletic events. Construction documents are complete, and contractor selection is expected soon.

Central High School

Planning continues for future phases that include a 1,000-seat auditorium, a 2,200-seat gymnasium and a cafeteria capable of seating approximately 1,000 students. The design also includes expanded culinary and health science instructional spaces and a widened central corridor that will serve as a key connector between campus buildings and programs.
Across all projects, San Angelo ISD remains focused on delivering safe, modern learning environments that enhance student opportunities while keeping projects on schedule and aligned with long-term district needs.
