Happy Friday Panther families! It has been another great week here at the middle school.

I would like to welcome Julie Gorter to the DKMS team. Julie is now a valued member of our office team. So if you call and here a British accent, you didn't call the wrong number that is Mrs. Gorter!

A big thank you to our 5th grade team and the staff at Sherman Lake for providing a memorable time for our 5th grade students this week at camp! It was awesome to spend Tuesday afternoon with our students and staff at camp seeing them climb the rock wall, making fires and outdoor shelters, doing archery, swimming, and setting the table for each other during meals. Also, a HUGE thank you to our DK PIE and everyone who donated money so that every child who earned the opportunity to go could. Those are the fond memories they will have when they look back at their time in 5th grade. Plus, a little secret for the parents, all of your children survived without TV, phones, and video games!!!

Next week will be a 4 day week, with no school on Friday April 4, 2025. Student report cards will be emailed on Thursday April 3, 2025. If you need to add or change your email in PowerSchool, please call the middle school office at (269) 623-1541.

State testing will begin Wednesday April 16, 2025, the first week back from spring break. It is very important that students are present on all test days and that they are ready to give their best effort. They have learned a lot this year and it is time to show it!

As always I would like to thank our students, staff, families, and community for all of their hard work and support. Each week I write these messages and marvel at how quickly time goes by. It is almost spring break so the end of the year is closer than we think. It is time to buckle down, focus, and finish this year strong! Have a great weekend and whether you yell "Go Blue" or "Go Green! Go White!" I hope your team does well this weekend!

It is a great day to be a PANTHER!!!

Thank you,

Bobby Tillman

5th Grade Students Enjoy an Amazing Experience at Sherman Lake YMCA Camp! 5th Grade Students Enjoy an Amazing Experience at Sherman Lake YMCA Camp!

On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday 5th grade went to the Sherman Lake YMCA camp. These amazing three days were full of activities, team building, and tons of laughter. The students learned to paddle corcl boats around the pool, archery, tie-dye, and outdoor skills (and that was just on the first day). They continued their adventure with rock wall climbing, team building activities, more pool time, capture the pig, camp fire, yard games, dodge ball, and reflection time with their counselors. They had terrific meals and tried new things. The journey concluded with the counselors nominating 17 amazing campers that showed HCRR (Honesty, Caring, Respect, and Responsibility). Two students from this group were awarded the HCRR award. This recognition comes with a scholarship for the student to return for a week of summer camp.

The 5th grade did a wonderful job of showing their Panther Pride. The teachers are very proud to have been able to be part of the fun, watching them learn new skills and work as a team.Check out some of the pictures below to see the students having a blast and making the most of their time at camp!

We’re so proud of her hard work and sportsmanship. Please join us in congratulating Dallas on this incredible accomplishment!

Creative Timelines: Understanding the War of 1812 Creative Timelines: Understanding the War of 1812

In Mr. Weldon's 8th grade Social Studies class, students have been learning about one of the most significant conflicts in American historyβ€”the War of 1812. To deepen their understanding, they've embarked on an exciting and creative project: building their own War of 1812 timeline.

Each student is carefully documenting key events of the war, writing down the date, providing a detailed description, and selecting a picture to illustrate each milestone.

This project helps students connect with history in a hands-on way while learning about the War of 1812. Great job everyone.

Fizz, Slime, and Lava: A Week of Hands-On Science Fun! Fizz, Slime, and Lava: A Week of Hands-On Science Fun!

This week, Mrs. Williams’ science class dove into the exciting world of chemical reactions with a hands-on, fizzing experiment. The students explored the concepts of reactants, products, and the changes that occur during a chemical reaction. It was a fun and engaging way to learn science through direct experience!

In addition to the chemical reaction experiment, the students also made slime and created lava bottles this week. These activities added even more excitement to the class, offering the students a chance to get creative while learning about different scientific principles.

Check out the pictures below to see the fun!

Chocolate Chip Cookies in the Air Fryer: A Life Skills Success Chocolate Chip Cookies in the Air Fryer: A Life Skills Success

In Mrs. Williams’ Life Skills class this week, students were also able to take part in a delicious hands-on experiment; making chocolate chip cookies in the air fryer. The class learned how to prepare and bake cookies using this modern kitchen appliance, gaining practical cooking skills along the way.

The students had a lot of fun mixing the ingredients, shaping the dough, and watching their cookies bake in the air fryer. Not only did they get to enjoy a tasty treat at the end, but they also learned important skills they can use in their own kitchens.

It was a fun and delicious hands-on lesson that everyone enjoyed πŸͺπŸͺ
