West Leyden Student Activities
Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year! My name is Ms. Gruettner, and I am West Leyden's Student Activities Director. Leyden offers so many opportunities to get involved, including joining clubs, attending special events, participating in spirit days, volunteering in the community, and much more. Most clubs will have their first meeting in the next few weeks!
The Student Activities Office is between the Gold & Bold Café and the student cafeteria (Room 125). I am usually there during the lunch periods and after school, so stop by and say 'Hi'!Take Flight, West Leyden's Student Activities newsletter, is published every other week (usually Mondays). It highlights recent and future club and school events. You may even see yourself or friends in some of the pictures, so be sure to get involved!
New this year, all Leyden students need to use the 5-Star Students app or link for Student Activities, Digital IDs, and Hall Passes.
With 5-Star Students, you can:
- access a complete list of Leyden clubs & activities in which you can get involved;
- see when & where meetings & events are taking place;
- check in & out of activities to verify participation / attendance;
- access your digital school ID; and
- create and receive hall passes during the school day.

If school spirit is something you’re passionate about, consider joining Blue Crew! Blue Crew is the official fan section of Leyden High Schools! Blue Crew brings students together to support and encourage various sporting events. The fan section provides Leyden athletics with encouragement, inspiration, and positive support. Its major events are the games that are played at Leyden facilities. Blue Crew sponsors at each campus work with the club to decide on the games that they want to attend, the theme, and cheers!
Blue Crew is also the club to join if YOU want to be Vega, Leyden's eagle mascot! Here is the Leyden Mascot Application. The deadline to apply is Friday, August 28th.
Blue Crew's first meeting of the year is TODAY, Monday, August 17th, 3:00 pm, in room 254. Email Ms. Jessica Kelly (jkelly@leyden212.org) for more info.
Transferring to a new school can be overwhelming, but with your help, we can make it a much smoother and more welcoming experience.
Be a Transfer Ambassador to welcome, help, and support incoming transfer students at West Leyden.
What does a Transfer Ambassador do?
Be paired with an incoming transfer student
Meet your student on their first day of school
Give a tour of the school
Help them get their materials and Chromebook
Show them where their classes are located
Invite them to sit with you at lunch and introduce them to your friends
Stay in touch and offer support throughout the school year
