Challenger's Counselor Corner
September/October 2026
We are off to a great start!
Dear Scobee Families,
What a wonderful start to our school year! While we're still waiting for that cooler weather to arrive, I'm so grateful to be on this journey with you and your student.
Over these first weeks, I've been visiting classrooms and leading guidance lessons with your children. I hope you've heard about the learning taking place! Your younger student may have brought home a coloring page of me. I'm excited that students are exploring the Kelso Wheel as a tool to solve small problems both at school and at home.
I have been working and supporting individual students in managing their feelings, delivering guidance lessons, and facilitating small group sessions.
Please remember that I'm here to help and support you are your student (s).
Decision of Respect
NISD Decision of Respect
- What it is: An annual event where students (grades K–12) and staff across all NISD campuses sign certificates and large posters pledging to treat peers and themselves with kindness and mutual respect.
- The Pledge: Participants commit to being caring individuals who help stop bullying, listen to students in need, and work together to maintain a safe and welcoming school environment.
- Leadership Support: Members of the NISD Board of Trustees and district leadership sign their own declarations annually to show visible support for the programs led by the district's Guidance and Counseling Department.
Wear yellow or gold on Friday, October 2nd
Student Decision of Respect
Parent Decision of Respect
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. I want to encourage everyone to wear something ORANGE on October 21st. It can be sneakers, a hair bow, a T-Shirt, or even some orange pants. Let's show that we are UNITED and WE stand together against bullying.
Red Ribbon Week
I'm excited to announce that Scobee Elementary will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week from October 26-30. This annual observance honors the memory of fallen DEA Special Agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena and serves as the nation's oldest and largest drug prevention awareness program.
During this week, our school community will focus on the importance of making healthy choices to support and develop a strong brain and body. I want to invite all students, staff, and families to participate in activities and discussions that promote a drug-free lifestyle and overall wellness.
I look forward to a meaningful week of celebration and education together.
Guidance Lessons
Lessons on Respect
Students at every grade level will receive a developmentally appropriate lesson on what is respect, what is looks like, what it sounds like and the importance of being respectful each and every day at school, home and in our community. We will also talk about how to show respect to yourself, to others and to the environment.
Making Healthy Choices Lessons
Students will learn the importance of making healthy choices for our body and our brain. Each grade level will receive an age appropriate lesson on healthy choices. For the younger students, the district is requires, the lesson on the book Sarah's Sick Day by Erainna Winnett. The older students in grades 4th-5th will have a district required lesson on the dangers of vaping and vaping awareness.
Antibullying Awareness Lessons
This is a required lesson from our district. I present this topic in a developmentally appropriate way to introduce drills on campus. I try to ease students worries and provide support for them. Older students will view a video on this topic. I will be available to provide any needed support.
