A Message from the Principal

Dear Viking Families,

It is hard to believe that we are halfway through the first 9-weeks! Midterm reports will be coming home on Wednesday. Students and Teachers have been working hard thus far and we look forward to the growth that we will continue to see! Our Scholastic Book Fair kicked off today and continues through next week. Each classroom has two designated time slots to bring their students shopping. Our 1st and 2nd-grade students will begin taking their iReady assessment next week. This data will provide us with valuable information for our students and help us to plan continued instruction.

Thank you to everyone that supported our PTO through buying or selling mums and kale during our fall fundraiser! We sold over 600 mums and kale!! Our next PTO meeting will be on September 7th at 6:00 PM.

We recognized our August Students of the Month this morning over the announcements. Students received their t-shirts and got their pictures taken. We will recognize them again during our first team time celebration in October. These students were selected by their classroom teachers for being exceptional examples of safe, respectful, responsible, and focused Valley Mills Vikings.

Just a reminder that starting Tuesday, September 7th all Decatur Township Schools will be requiring students and staff to wear face masks. Please ensure that your child is wearing their mask to avoid having to quarantine.

If anyone is looking for an opportunity to be in the school and working on the school calendar, we are looking to fill a few positions for building substitutes. Check out the openings at https://www.decaturproud.org/hr/job-postings

I hope that everyone enjoys their Labor Day weekend. Remember, we do not have school on Monday, September 6th.

Have a great weekend!

Marissa Richey

A Note from the Nurse

Please make sure your child has a water bottle in school at all times. Due to covid-19 regulations, water fountains have been disabled and the only way your child will be able to receive water is during lunch time and/or filling up their water bottles at particular locations within the school. Ailments such as headaches and stomach aches are often times related to lack of water intake. It is very important that your child stays hydrated throughout the day in order for them to get the best learning experience they can. Thank you all for your understanding and help in keeping our Vikings safe and healthy!!!!!
