Hello Nixon Families,

My name is Kristen Villasenor and I am so happy to be beginning my fifth year as an assistant principal at Nixon. Having the privilege of watching your children grow and mature over the years brings me joy that I cannot put into words. I have truly enjoyed getting to know and love our Coyote families and community members. Lend a Paw! The Nixon Student Ambassadors are

holding a clothing drive until August 30th. We are

accepting new/gently used children’s clothing to

support Nixon students in need. Donation drop

off will be from 7:30am-4:30pm in the front office.

Wednesday, August 21st will be an early release day (12pm)

Coyote families…EPISD is utilizing the new EPISD App for communications. You have received an email or text asking you to download Rooms which is part of the EPISD App and has caused some confusion. When downloading, you will sign in using your phone number on file with the school and will receive a code that will get you started. This app will provide campus and district news and information, as well as allow you to communicate with your child’s teacher. If you need help learning the new app, Andress will be holding a Parent Meeting on Monday, August 19th at 5:30pm in the library.

This year Nixon is implementing calming corners in the classroom. A calming corner is a designated space with the purpose of serving as a safe space for a child when their emotions are running high. These spaces help a child self-regulate and are equipped with comforting objects and materials to promote mindfulness, breathing and reflection. The behavior expectations and time limits will be set by your child’s teacher.

Tips to Create a Calming Corner at Home

• · Designate a corner in a quiet room
• · Fill the space with a soft rug, bean bag or plush, some of your child’s favorite books or toys, and sensory items
• If your child is older, you can utilize short bookcases to provide your child with some privacy

Join us Friday, August 23rd for Family Movie Night from 5-7pm! Bring your chairs and blankets and get ready for “MIGRATION”! This is a free event and tickets will be available starting Monday, 19th in D1 from 8am-dismissal. For capacity purposes, only 200 tickets will be available on a first come, first serve basis. PTO will be selling concessions and you are welcome to bring your own snacks!

Coyote families…if you are interested in becoming a Nixon volunteer or have already applied for you VIPS, this orientation is for you! Join us Tuesday, August 27th at 8:30am in D1 to learn more! Information will include how to apply, do’s and don’ts of volunteering and opportunities available at Nixon! Snacks and refreshments will be served

August 27th is Fall Picture Day!!!

Join your student Thursday, August 29th during the first 15-20 minutes of their PE time to walk/run and get active with your child! Please enter and sign in through the back gate on Loma Franklin.

No school Labor Day, Monday, September 2nd

Nixon will host its annual Grandparent’s Day Luncheon on Thursday, September 5th to honor our grandparents! Join us for a celebratory lunch! Tickets will be on sale for $6 in the cafeteria from August 21st-30th. There will be a limit of 4 tickets per student and no sales will be allowed after the 30th.
