Our Learning Community...

Thank you for your incredible support of this year’s APEX Jog-A-Thon! We are so grateful for the many ways our community came together, through generous donations and by sharing the fundraising links with family and friends near and far. The funds raised will make a meaningful impact on the experiences we can create for our students and families throughout the year. We are excited to share the final fundraising totals with you as soon as they are finalized!

A special thank you to the many volunteers who helped make the Jog-A-Thon such a success. We truly could not do it without you! We also appreciate everyone who came out to cheer on our Dolphin runners. The energy, encouragement, and school spirit made the event so much fun, we had a blast and hope you did too!

Finally, we are just one week away from Parent/Guardian Conference Week. Our classroom teachers schedule a conference with every student’s family, so please be sure to sign up if you have not already. Conference time is an important opportunity to reflect on growth, celebrate successes, and plan for navigating challenges. When families partner with teachers, it reinforces that we are all on the same team, invested in every student’s success.

It is that time of year again when our students begin taking the state-mandated fitness test. The testing window runs between March 23rd to May 8th for our 5th graders. 4th graders will take a practice test to prepare for next year. Our Jones students will participate in 5 activities including the pacer, curl ups, flex arm hang, trunk lift, and shoulder stretch. Our IMPACT stations include exercises to help our students practice these tests and to build strength and confidence. Please encourage your child to try their best and to focus on their fitness goals. Example: If I push myself, maybe I could do one or two more curl ups than last time. Also, don’t forget to remind them to wear appropriate shoes for running (no sandals or crocs please.)

Dance class this month is inspired by Irish Folk dance including the Irish Jig. Some of our dances will also include scarves. Dancing with scarves is one of those magical activities that looks simple on the surface but is packed with developmental benefits, creativity, and pure joy. Not only have we used scarves, but we have also used ribbon rings and wands to add a little flair to our movements.

Stay active – Coach Jensen

Get Excited... Get Excited...

We are excited to share that our PTA is launching its 1st Annual Digital Talent Show! This is a wonderful opportunity for students to showcase their unique talents and creativity with our school community. Whether it’s singing, dancing, magic, comedy, art, sports tricks, or another special skill, we can’t wait to celebrate the many talents of our students.

Spring Spring

Did you know that just 15 minutes of reading each day can make a world of difference in your child’s learning journey? Whether you are reading to your child, reading together, or listening to them read aloud, it all counts and it all matters!

Reading at home builds more than just literacy skills. It strengthens vocabulary, improves comprehension, and develops a lifelong love of learning. In fact, children who are read to daily are exposed to 1.4 million more words by the time they start school than children who are not. That kind of language exposure lays a strong foundation for both academic success and confident communication.

Just as importantly, books also help children grow socially by allowing them to step into other people’s experiences, see the world from different perspectives and practice empathy and kindness. Stories have the power to spark cultural awareness, build understanding and nurture the skills that help our students become not only successful learners, but also compassionate human beings.

Here are a few ways to make reading a special part of your routine:

  • Choose a cozy time and space to read together

  • Let your child pick the book (even if it’s the same one again!)

  • Ask questions about the story to boost comprehension

  • Model a love for reading by enjoying your own book nearby

The best part, your family has access to an endless amount of books through the internet and the Public Library. Looking for something new to read? Check out the links below for inspiration...
