Scottsville's Tuesday Tiger Times
February 10, 2026
Black History Month
We are thrilled to welcome back Lillie Williams this Friday, February 13. After a schoolwide morning meeting, she will dance, sing, and share stories with all grade levels during their Essentials time.
Today we recognized Mr. Benjamin Franklin Yancey on morning announcements!
Mr. Yancey believed that every child deserves a great education. In the early 1900s, there were no schools for Black children in Esmont, Virginia, so he decided to build one.
He started a "School League" where parents worked together to buy land and build a schoolhouse.
Mr. Yancey didn’t call his students "kids"—he called them "scholars" to show how much he respected their hard work.
When school was out for summer break, Mr. Yancey even worked extra jobs to make sure the school had what it needed. The school he started is now known as the B.F. Yancey Community Center.
We Notice
Please recognize our hard working staff and teachers through the "We Notice" program -- nominations close February 16.
We Notice "Thoughtful Tigers"
Each week students are noticed for being kind and helpful...and some are chosen to be highlighted! These were the Tigers chosen before the "snowcation." Look for new Tigers each week!
Peek into the Week
Our students jumped back into learning last week -- even with the delays!
Making music
We were proud of Apollo who represented Scottsville at the ACPS Spelling Bee last week!
Ms. P teaches Kindergarten literacy
We were so proud of all our talented Tigers last night!
