May 5: MMIW Day
May 5 is recognized as the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIW) to honor victims, support families, and highlight the disproportionate violence against Native women. Established in 2017, this day often involves wearing red, hosting vigils, and raising awareness about high rates of violence
Teacher Appreciation Week
May 4 - 8 is teacher appreciation week! Our ANCCS teachers pour their love, energy, and wisdom into our students each and every day. This week is a week for families and students to say "Quyana" and show their appreciation for everything their teachers and educators do.

Volunteers Needed for Field Day!
We are seeking volunteers for Field Day on May 20! Come out and help our kids have a fun-filled Field Day! We need help with Set Up, Activity Stations, and Clean Up. If you are able to help with either the morning or afternoon, it would be greatly appreciated.
Contact Ms. Ward (Ward_Lisa@asdk12.org) to sign up.
Attendance Update
WOW! Our regular attendance rate grew from 67.9% in March to 78.4% in April!! This means 78.4% of ANCCS students attended 90% or more of school days during the month of April! Let's keep it up and be maantua through May!
As we approach our final days of school, set a goal for your student to attend every single day!
* 249 students have regular attendance
* 76 students have at-risk attendance (chronically absent)
*16 students have severely chronically absent attendance
* 2 students have attended less than 70% of the school year
On April 29, ASD celebrated our ANCCS families, staff, and students for having excellent attendance in March. ANCCS students had the highest regular attendance rate of all schools in the ASD attendance cohort. To celebrate, ASD provided coffee in the car line to our families and provided Texas Roadhouse lunch to our staff. Additionally, members of the UAA Men's basketball team came to lead a special assembly for our students. Students got to celebrate and play relay games. One of our own ANCCS middle school students even bumped out one of the UAA players in a game of Knock Out!
Maantua through May!
During our Student Showcase on May 15, two students will be selected to win a FREE BIKE! Every 10 days throughout quarter 4, students who attended at least 9 out of the 10 days have their name entered to win.
Attend school, be maantua, and win a bike!
Registration for the 2026-27 School Year
Returning ANCCS Students:
Registration for the 2026-2027 school year is open! All returning students must complete the registration process prior to the school year beginning. Registering early helps us predict class sizes and placements for next year and is very appreciated. For more information, please see the ASD registration page or contact the front office at 742-1370.
New ANCCS students:
Students joining ANCCS must apply through the lottery. The spring lottery has run, but families may still apply for the summer lottery that runs in July. Once students have been accepted through the lottery, they may complete the registration process.
Kindergarten Pre-Enrollment is open! Incoming Kindergarteners can complete the pre-enrollment process online now through May 29!
Last Day of School & Summer Activities
Stay tuned for summer events! We will have a playground meet-up and Ice Cream Social shortly before school starts. More information will be shared.
