Kōkopu Newsletter
Term 2 Week 1 Monday 20th April 2026
Principals Message
Kia ora Kōkopu whānau,
Welcome back to school everyone.
We hope your children managed to get a good break and refresh themselves ready for a long 11-week term 2.
A big welcome to Noah and Jasper who started in Room 1 today. It is lovely having new faces around school. Watching them play today at break times showed how quickly students make friends and get to know the school.
No doubt many of you would have been affected by the cyclone during the break with the usual spots flooding. We had a minor slip up in the new steps area that will require some work to stabilise the bank. It is safe for now, but please be careful walking up and down the steps as there may be some soil on the steps. A big thank you to Ray our caretaker for doing a huge cleanup and making sure the school was ready for teachers and students this week.
Term two is going to be another exciting and learning filled term. As a whole school, we have a social sciences focus and are studding major world events, including ANZAC, to start the term and then moving into our country study about Australia.
We also have interschool winter sports, gymnastics and our ongoing Matariki planting day.
We have some classroom upgrades happening this week with new carpet being installed in all classrooms. This does require a bit of shuffling around but will be worth the effort.
Even with the wet weather, our pool project continues to make progress. The assessable ramp is under construction and the internals are looking good with lino laid last week.

Kokopu School ANZAC Assembly
We will hold a brief ANZAC cross laying assembly this Friday 24th April at 9am on the courts. Some of our students will speak and then the juniors, with heir tuakana teina buddies, will lay memorial crosses for local soldiers who died in the wars. Finally, the boys will preform a haka. Everyone is welcome to attend this assembly.
Maungatapere Hall ANZAC Service
This year we are taking part in the Maungatapere ANZAC service at the Maungatapere Hall at 1257 State Highway 14. The service is on Saturday 25th April and starts at 9am and is run by students from Kokopu and Maungatapere School. It is a casual affair with some very touching moments that we expect from an ANZAC service. All are welcome and there is a cup of tea afterwards.
