Happy New Year!

I hope you had a wonderful break and got to relax!

Green Lake staff is excited to be back teaching and working with your children and we want to share how grateful we are for each of you. Together we can maintain the routines we established at the beginning of the school year to help students come to school, prepared to learn.

We have a school wide attendance goal of 92% attendance (Excused absences such as illness do not count against this goal). When our school has made this goal for four weeks, we celebrated with a popcorn party!

We celebrate school attendance because every school day matters. When students are at school, it gives them the chance to keep learning, connect with friends, and grow both socially and academically.

Your support makes such a huge difference in helping children feel connected and prepared for school.

If your family or your child needs support, please reach out to Monica Schneider at mmschneider@seattleschools.org.

Thank you for partnering with us!

You may have gotten summer learning information if your student qualifies for the program this summer. If you need assistance getting your student signed up through the Source please let their teacher know or call/come by the office and we can help you.

Warmly,

Liz McFarland (she/her)

Next PTA meeting Jan 21

Mark your calendars! After the success of the last PTA potluck, we're running it again. Monday Jan 21 from 6-8 p.m. Come build community, discuss school issues, and learn what your PTA is up to.

After-School Enrichment Coordinator Needed!

We need a new After-School Enrichment Coordinator for next school year! Our current coordinator will be taking over as our PTA President, and would love to find someone to take over this role so that we can continue to offer after-school classes to our kids. AND, if we know who you are soon we can start training you this year!

This is such an important role that the PTA actually has a budget to pay for someone to take it on, and we can pay you $25 an hour! We can also split the job up if there are 2 people who would like to work on it together.

But I must emphasize: without someone taking over this role, we will not have an after-school program next year. If you're even remotely interested but not sure if you're the right fit - please reach out! We can figure out how to make it work. enrichment@greenlakedragons.org

Also: this is a job that can be done remotely! While it is helpful to be able to pop into the school every once in a while it's not necessary.

Your job duties would include:

  • Choosing our class lineup
  • Working with class vendors to get them scheduled
  • Communicating with families about the program
  • Working with the school to find good classroom spaces for each class, and to let them know what kids are enrolled
  • Working with our on-site coordinators to make sure we have someone at the school every afternoon to check kids in.

We already have 2-3 people who do our on-site coordinating every day, so our new After-School Enrichment Coordinator doesn't have to come into the school to do that bit and can do most of this job remotely!

This would be a great position for someone who is organized, loves a good puzzle, and thinks play is just as important as learning for our kids.

Please email enrichment@greenlakedragons.org if you're interested or have any questions.
