What's Going On This Month

At Second Home, we focus on functional, person-centered learning by giving participants the freedom to choose from a variety of fun and engaging tasks! This approach allows everyone to explore what piques their interest while staying aligned with their personal goals. Whether it’s customizing tasks, reflecting on their choices, or receiving support when needed, we’re dedicated to creating an environment where learning is both meaningful and enjoyable for all. This month, Second Home embraced the spirit of St. Patrick's Day with green bagels and Shamrock Shakes!

Functional Highlight

Restaurant Industry

Second Home's work readiness skills program concentrated on equipping participants with essential skills for the restaurant industry. This included training in customer service, communication, food safety, teamwork, and time management, all aimed at helping participants succeed in various restaurant roles and enhance their employability in the hospitality sector.

Nutrition

Second Home's daily living skill of the month was dedicated to Nutrition, where participants actively engaged in lessons that emphasized the importance of MyPlate guidelines. The lessons focused on teaching participants how to make healthier food choices, balance their meals, and incorporate nutritious foods into their daily routines, all while promoting a lifestyle centered around overall well-being.

Community-Based Instruction

This month, Second Home participants had the chance to take part in an enriching Community-Based Instruction to Ikea. The groups navigated the store, engaging in a fun and interactive Scavenger Hunt to find different household items. This experience not only allowed participants to explore the community but also offered a wonderful opportunity for social interactions. The outing was both educational and enjoyable, fostering independence and building confidence for future life experiences.

Their contributions and dedication are integral to making Second Home a vibrant, inclusive, and innovative community. Open House

Thank you to all who attended our Open House and Paint & Mingle event! It was a fantastic evening, bringing together Second Home and community members for a fun and engaging social experience. We appreciate everyone who participated, especially Amy Conklin, and helped make the event a success.
