Welcome to the first newsletter of 2025! Hello families, I hope you enjoyed the longer than usual Winter Break. It was very nice to have extra time to fully rest and rejuvenate. It was such fun to see everyone back at school this week. It does take a little time to rebuild the routines that were in place before the break but we are working to quickly get back into the groove. It was a great week for PE to be at DCS as the weather was so cold we had multiple indoor recess days. We go out when the real feel is 10 degrees or above. We were very thankful to have the warmer temps today!

We are starting the mid year assessments next week which involve MAP computerized testing (Grades 1-5), and AimsWeb (K-5) testing which staff administer to each student. Copies of the results of these assessments will be sent home when they are all completed. Please make sure your student is well rested and has a good breakfast and some snacks.

Dublin School has once again surprised us with another generous donation...they used a grant to purchase another 20 pairs of Cross Country Skis! It is so perfect as we are planning a Field Trip to the Dublin School Nordic Center on January 21st.

We are excited for our first ever PTO coordinated Game/Puzzle/Pizza Night on January 23rd from 5:30-7pm. Please plan to park at Yankee and take the bus down. The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to DCS the week of January 21st. It will be open during Game/Puzzle Night if you want to plan to purchase any books. Have a wonderful weekend, Nicole

Message from School Counselor Robin Gregg Message from School Counselor Robin Gregg

Classroom counseling lessons during the past few weeks for the younger students have focused on emotional literacy--the ability to "read" and understand feelings. We also have discussed the fact that different people respond to things differently and may have different feelings about the same situation. The third graders learned about degrees of feelings (e.g., happiness can range from satisfied and contented to overjoyed, jubilant and ecstatic; anger can range from irritated or annoyed to furious or enraged. Fourth and fifth grade students have been learning more about perspective taking and the importance of rethinking situations rather than becoming and staying "stuck," emotionally.

Message from the School Nurse Message from the School Nurse

A message from Pam Murphy, RN DCS School Nurse

Recently, there have been numerous student requests for cough drops. As cough drops are considered medication, I am asking for your help in following the ConVal policy on medication administration at the elementary level. To do this, any medication, including cough drops, must be delivered to the school by a parent/guardian or their designated responsible adult in the original container. A written permission form is also required which is available at DCS.

Please reach out to me at pmurphy@conval.edu if you have any questions.
