Marengo Valley School Newsletter
October 2026
MVS Families,
October is here, and it is hard to believe how quickly the school year is moving! Our hallways and classrooms are filled with learning, laughter, and lots of Oredocker pride.
Our students have been working hard to establish routines, build friendships, and grow as learners. We continue to focus on our schoolwide expectations of respect and kindness. We appreciate the support of our families as we work together to help our students make positive choices and treat others with care.
Growing as Readers, Writers and Mathematicians-
A continued focus at MVS is strong literacy and math instruction. Our teachers use assessment information to identify what students know, what they are ready to learn next, and how we can provide additional practice or support when needed.
Students are building foundational reading skills, developing fluency, working on comprehension, and growing as writers. We are excited to see the progress our students will make throughout the year!
Families can help by making reading part of the daily routine. Even 15–20 minutes of reading together, listening to your child read, or talking about a book can make a meaningful difference.
In math, students are developing strong foundational skills while also learning to think critically, problem-solve, explain their thinking, and apply mathematical concepts. Teachers are providing opportunities for students to work with numbers and mathematical ideas in hands-on and meaningful ways.
Warm Regards,
Principal Erickson
🚍IMPORTANT BUS REMINDER🚍
If your child needs to go to someone else’s home and will need to ride a different bus than their regularly assigned bus, the change must first be approved by the Bus Garage. The Bus Garage will then notify the appropriate bus drivers of the change.
Once you have received approval from the Bus Garage, please email Mrs. Nortunen so that she can provide the teacher with a note for your child’s bus change.
If students are riding their normal bus and need to get off someplace other than home, parents should write a note for your child(ren) to give to the bus driver.
Thank you for helping us ensure that all transportation changes are communicated clearly, safely and in advance.
