NEWS & INFORMATION
What a wonderful first week back at Marshall! We loved having our 2nd–5th graders back in the building and seeing the energy, excitement, and smiles they brought with them. We are so excited to welcome our PS–1 students on Monday and can’t wait to have the whole Marshall family together again! It’s going to be a great year!

IMPORTANT UPDATES & REMINDERS
Student Cell Phone Usage: Based on compliance with Senate Bill 158
Ohio Senate Bill 158 seeks to promote a focused, respectful learning environment free from personal cell phone distractions during the entirety of the school day.
Expectations
All student cell phones must be powered off from arrival until dismissal.
Phones may be stored in a student backpack and/or cubby and may not be used in classrooms, hallways, restrooms, recess, or the cafeteria at any time during the school day.
Additional electronic devices that allow communication or internet use may also be stored should they present a disruption.
Consequences for Cell Phone Violations
1st Offense - students will receive a warning
2nd Offense - phone confiscated & turned into office until the end of the day
3rd -Offense - above procedures and the cell phone must be picked up in the office by the parent/guardian
Subsequent offenses - progressive discipline, including but not limited to: loss of recess and/or privileges
All parent/guardian contact must go through the main office. Students are never without access to communication. The school can always connect a student with a guardian using the office phone.
School-Wide Emergencies
Student safety comes first. We will not send students to hallways during an active emergency. Communication with families will be handled centrally by administration, SRO, or district personnel. If students need to access their phones after an emergency to contact family, they will be given permission and time to do so once it is safe. In some situations (e.g., prolonged shelter-in-place or reunification), supervised phone retrieval will be allowed once the situation is stable.
Please note, students refusing to comply with an adult’s request to turn their phone in are subject to additional consequences.

NOTES FROM OUR SOCIAL WORKER
NOTES FROM THE OFFICE
Student Fees:
Fees have been loaded to PaySchools if you wish to pay online. You can also pay in the office with cash or check.
Lunch Accounts:
As a reminder, you are able to add funds to your student's lunch account through the PaySchools system. If your student's account reaches -$50 it will be rolled into your school fees. Please be mindful and keep your student's account current. You can use PaySchools, send a check or cash to the school office to take care of your student's balance.
Free and Reduced:
If you would like to apply for free or reduced lunches, please reach out to the Marshall office or the Marshall social worker Chrissy Rolfes at rolfesc@talawanda.org. We can help walk you through the online application or help you fill out a paper form in the office. If you qualify for FREE lunch, your fees will also be waived. (EXCEPT for 5th grade Chromebook fee) If you qualify for REDUCED, fees will be reduced by 85% (EXCEPT for 5th grade Chromebook fee) and meals will be FREE.
Dismissal:
Thank you for your help in keeping dismissal safe and smooth for everyone. We ask that when your child is called to your car, you please help them climb in and then pull forward to the upper lot to buckle them into their car seat. Remaining stopped in the dismissal lane to buckle your child slows down the process for all families and, more importantly, it creates an unsafe situation when other cars attempt to go around. Your cooperation makes dismissal safer and quicker for all of our students.
Final Forms:
Remember, if you have any changes to your information (phone number, address, who can pick up your student, etc) throughout the school year, change it in Final Forms! The office is notified of these changes and will update our information. IF you have an address change, you must submit new proof of residency to the office before we will update your address.
