Week #7
October 1, 2026

October 1, 2026
Dear York High School Families,
I hope you are having a wonderful week! We had a fantastic turnout for our annual YHS Activities Fair. It was inspiring to see so many of our students exploring the wide range of clubs, organizations, and co-curricular programs we offer and taking the initiative to sign up and get involved.
Upcoming Reminder:
No School for Students on Friday, October 9: This is a scheduled District Professional Development Day for our staff, who will be focusing on curriculum alignment and instructional planning.
As always, if you have any questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Thank you,
Kyle Hodsdon, Principal
Corinne Monaco, Assistant Principal
Wildcat Way!
This past Monday, the TIDALWAVSE group, with the support of Yorkwise, welcomed students to school with a treat & the reminder: "Donut Fall for Peer Pressure." Students were sent the Soberfriends pledge this week via a google form inviting them to join the Soberfriends club. Soberfriends works alongside TIDALWAVSE to support YHS students who pledge to live drug- and alcohol-free. The club focuses on enjoying natural highs, sharing positive connections, and hosting fun monthly events. The goal is to make it as easy as possible to find and connect with peers who are making healthy choices. Signing the pledge is open to all students, and attending meetings is never required. All YHS students are welcome at events, and we would love to have your student join us for our next event on October 17th before the homecoming football game!
Homecoming Dance! Friday, Oct. 16, 7:00-9:00pm
We are looking forward to having our Homecoming Dance on Friday, October 16. If any YHS student wishes to bring a non-YHS student as a guest, those dance forms need to be submitted to the Main Office by Wednesday, Oct. 14. Students will not be allowed admittance to the dance after 8:00.
We have partnered with YORKWISE and the York Police Department to help foster a healthy and safe Homecoming, and will be having all students and guests entering the dance take a breathalyzer test. Mrs. Monaco and Mr. Hodsdon will be administering the tests. If students do not pass, then parents will be called to pick up their student. If students refuse to take the test, they will not be allowed admittance to the dance, and parents will be called to pick them up. If parents have any questions regarding this decision, please feel free to reach out to Mr. Hodsdon

National Merit Scholarship Program
YHS is honored to highlight Ethan Wilson as Semifinalist, Beetle Rooke-Dutton, Katelin Bloomer as Commended Scholars in the National Merit Scholarship Program!
Out of more than 1.3 million students nationwide who took the PSAT/NMSQT during their junior year, Ethan, Beetle and Katelin scored among the top 50,000 highest scorers in the country. Given their incredible drive, this national recognition comes as no surprise for three students who truly embody exceptional academic promise, dedication, and hard work. Additionally, Ethan has qualified as a Semifinals, one of 16,000 still competing for 6,700 National Merit Scholarships to be offered next spring.
Please join us in giving a huge round of applause to these students for representing our school community with distinction. Congratulations Beetle and Katelin!

PSAT/NMSQT Testing October 14
Attention Junior families, an important update from the Student Services team regarding upcoming PSAT testing! York High School will administer the digital PSAT/NMSQT to all 11th-grade students on the morning of Wednesday, October 14. The exam is provided to 11th grade students free of charge, but please note that no makeup testing dates will be available. For full details on registration, test preparation, testing schedules, what to bring, and why the PSAT matters, please review the full communication here.
Student Parking Permits
Students’ use of personal vehicles on school property is a privilege. Students are expected to follow all expectations when operating a vehicle on school grounds.
Any student who intends to drive a vehicle to school must complete a Parking Permit Registration Form (here) and display an issued permit on their vehicle. Permits are provided at no cost to eligible students. Unregistered vehicles may lose parking privileges or be subject to towing. Parking passes will be issued starting on Sept. 8. Students must have permits on vehicles beginning on Sept. 14.
All State of Maine motor vehicle laws will apply, including excessive speed, noise, and reckless driving.
Only students with valid driver’s licenses will be eligible to park at York High School.
Students are expected to park in a marked parking space.
The Student Resource Hub
We have also created a new Student Resource Hub bookmark to make it easier for students to access important digital forms and resources. The Hub includes forms that were previously located in the Front Office Documents folder, including:
- Late Arrival/Early Dismissal Form
- Dance Guest Form
- Extended Absence Form
- And other commonly used student forms and resources
We encourage students to familiarize themselves with the Student Resource Hub, which will provide a convenient, centralized location for accessing these forms throughout the school year.
School Breakfast & Lunch
School meals continue to be available to all students at no charge again this year, regardless of household income. Students are eligible for one breakfast and one lunch. Student lunch schedules will be based on the classes they are in for block 3. Teachers will share lunch information with students on the first day of school.
