Ms. Corron's Corner
Dear Miscoe Families,
October is flying by! Last week, Mr. Cuomo and I presented Miscoe Hill’s School Improvement Plan to the School Committee. This year’s School Improvement Plan is focused on continuous improvement as we build on Miscoe’s strong foundation. This SIP is about honoring the work happening at Miscoe every day and giving our educators and students the structure and support to keep growing. By strengthening our instruction, expanding our supports, and deepening our community connections, we’re ensuring every student is known, valued, and prepared for the future.
Additionally, our 7th grade Design and Modeling students from Miss Rhodes’ class presented their ankle orthotics projects at the School Committee meeting - giving everyone a firsthand look at the creative problem-solving and innovation happening in our classrooms every day. They walked us through the design process of planning, iterating, designing, and reflecting with enthusiasm - thank you for representing our school so well! Way to go!
Tech Tips: Caring for Your iPad!
At Miscoe Hill, school-issued iPads can be just as essential as a pencil or binder! To help your student stay ready for learning every day and keep their device in working order, here are a few key habits to reinforce at home:
Charge It Nightly: Please help your student plug in their iPad every evening. A 100% battery ensures they won't miss a beat in class.
Backpack & Hallway Safety: The #1 cause of cracked screens is pressure inside backpacks or drops in crowded hallways. Remind students to pack iPads away from heavy books/water bottles and keep devices zipped away when moving between classes.
Respect the Hardware: Remind students never to pick off keyboard keys, peel rubber borders, or modify cases. Picking keys breaks delicate internal clips, turning a minor habit into a costly hardware repair!
Passcodes & Privacy: Remind students to keep their screen lock passcodes private and never lend their assigned iPad to a classmate.
Helpful Hint: Set up a designated "charging station" in a common area at home (like the kitchen or living room) rather than your student's bedroom to prevent late-night screen time and sleep disruption!
We know middle school life gets busy, and accidental drops or software glitches happen! If an iPad is damaged accidentally, students can submit a helpdesk ticket via the Incident IQ app on their iPad or through their student portal. However, please note that intentional damage (such as picked keycaps or vandalism) is not considered normal wear and tear and may result in repair fees.
We’re also excited to introduce Mr. Monteiro, our new iPad Support Technician! Mr. Monteiro has been hard at work resolving tickets and ensuring every student has a functional device in hand.
We have an exciting week ahead! Student Council is kicking off their first Spirit Week of the year, leading up to the 7th and 8th grade Volloween event on Friday night. Best of luck to our 5th graders heading off to Outdoor Classroom - with great weather in the forecast, it promises to be a memorable, hands-on adventure in the woods! Have a safe and productive week, everyone!
With gratitude,
Ms. Corron
