Welcome Back, Lions! Welcome Back, Lions!

Dear Lakeview Families,

We hope that all of you are having a wonderful summer break! Summer can be a great time to reconnect as a family and spend time together. We hope that all of you were able to make some great memories over the past few weeks.

We are also very excited to welcome all of you back to Lakeview in the coming weeks. We wanted to take a moment to share with you important back-to-school information, as the first day of school is approaching rapidly. In this month's edition of the Lions' Roar, you will find information regarding our school's daily schedule. We also have a couple of changes with our staff and would like to welcome our newest Lions to Lakeview. You will also read about Beginning of the Year dates/events, Proposition O information, Arrival/Dismissal procedures, Supply Lists, and information about the "WSD Back to School Fair."

We look forward to seeing you soon. Please know that we are always available to answer any questions or address any concerns that you have. Welcome back, Lions!

-Mr. Holler and Mrs. Keebey

Kindergarten Orientation Kindergarten Orientation

Kindergarten Orientation will take place on two days- Tuesday, August 18 (PM only) and Wednesday, August 19 (AM Only). Each family will sign up for one appointment for their child. Appointments for Tuesday, August 18, will begin at 12 p.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. in the teacher's classroom. Appointments for Wednesday, August 19, will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 12 p.m. The appointment will be 15 minutes long. This format allows our kindergarten teachers to begin building positive rapport with each of our students. During the appointment, the beginning of the year assessments will be administered in a 1:1 setting with your child. Our assessments will also be more valid as they will be given with just one student in the classroom instead of having a classroom full of students while assessing.

Sign-ups for this day will be sent out through email on Friday, August 7 (the same day teacher assignments are available in FOCUS). It is critical that families are prompt because appointments are scheduled back to back. The appointment will not be a parent-teacher conference, and no results will be shared during this appointment due to time constraints. School supplies should not be brought to the appointment. All school supplies can be brought to Meet the Teacher Night that evening (August 19th) from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.

During your child’s appointment, families will view a short video message. The video message will explain important Lakeview procedures and explain what a typical day is like. After viewing the video message, families are welcome to stop by the main office with further questions.

We look forward to meeting all of our newest Lions in a couple of weeks!

Prop O: District-wide Safety & Security Prop O: District-wide Safety & Security

In case you missed it, last week the WSD sent out information regarding Prop O — a zero-tax-rate increase bond on the Aug. 4 ballot — and its proposed improvements to safety and security district-wide.

In addition to a rebuild of Heritage Elementary and renovations at Holt High School and Wentzville Middle, if passed, Prop O would provide $5 million in dedicated district-wide security funding.

Safety and security measures may include, and are not limited to, the following:

  • Final phase of SafeDefend installation
  • Added window safety film
  • Upgraded and additional surveillance cameras
  • Added high school guard houses
As promised, the District used Props C and S funds to create a more secure school environment. Using these funds, the WSD Safety and Security Committee voted to implement enhanced secure school access through Raptor, added ID/fob entry, approved the purchase of window safety film on all first-level windows, and approved the purchase of SafeDefend boxes in school classrooms.

Learn more about Prop O at wsdPropO.org.

Welcome, New Staff! Welcome, New Staff!

We are so excited to have these new lions join our Lakeview family!

iPads Replace K-6 Chromebooks iPads Replace K-6 Chromebooks

All students in Grades K-6 will transition to a unified iPad experience, replacing aging Chromebooks and older iPad models with new iPads. This shift is designed to streamline the educational experience for students while improving technical efficiency for teachers and staff.

The transition introduces enhanced classroom capabilities through tools like Apple Classroom and Mosyle Class Manager. These resources allow educators to launch specific apps, pause iPad use, and lock iPads into a single app for a focused mode.

While the on-screen keyboard is the preferred input method for students, external keyboards will remain available for specific instructional needs or accessibility requirements.

Throughout this transition, the district remains committed to a balanced instructional model where technology serves as a purposeful tool to enhance, rather than replace, the vital role of the educator in the classroom.

Early Release Wednesdays Replace Late Start Mondays Early Release Wednesdays Replace Late Start Mondays

This year, monthly Late Start Mondays will be replaced with monthly All-District Early Release Wednesdays.

In addition to the monthly 120-minute All-District Early Release Wednesdays, the District will introduce weekly 68-minute Secondary Early Release Wednesdays on full school weeks.

Reporting An Absence Reporting An Absence

A parent or legal guardian must call the school office each day a student is absent. Student attendance will be recorded on a daily basis. When a student returns to school after an absence, a note of explanation from the parent, legal guardian, physician, or other health providers, must be submitted for absences to be excused. Failure to submit notes or make telephone calls explaining why a child is absent will result in the absence being marked as unexcused. You can reach our attendance secretary, Mrs. Kim Majesky, at 636-332-2923 or send an email to attendance.lakeview@wsdr4.org.

Late Arrivals Late Arrivals

If a student comes to school after 9:00 a.m., he or she will be counted as tardy and a parent must sign them in at the office. Please do not send a late child into the building alone. A pass will be issued by the office secretary to admit the student to class. Students are considered tardy if they are not in their classroom by school start time (9:00 a.m.). Being on time is important. Students who come late miss important educational experiences.

Dismissal Changes Dismissal Changes

Changes to your child’s dismissal/transportation plans need to be communicated to the teacher or the main office. If you need to make an occasional transportation change (car rider instead of the bus, etc.), you must send a note to your child’s teacher. If that is not possible, you may call the office on the day of the change before 3:15 p.m. so the office staff has adequate time to notify your child’s teacher. You must provide a note or call each day that you want your child to go home in a different manner than usual. Students may not be signed out of the office after 3:30 p.m.

No Electric Scooters & Bikes No Electric Scooters & Bikes

For the safety of all students, staff, and visitors, electric bikes, motorbikes, scooters, and similar non-licensed motorized vehicles may no longer be ridden on any district/school property.

Students who arrive on campus using one of these vehicles should dismount when they reach school grounds and walk it to the designated parking area. Riding any non-licensed motorized vehicle on campus is not permitted.

This change is being implemented to help ensure a safe environment for everyone during arrival, dismissal, and throughout the school day. Please take a moment to review this expectation with your child. Thank you for your partnership and support. As a reminder, all students are expected to follow school policies while on school property.
