December 2025

Before sleigh riding off to Winter Break, there are some important updates, holiday school performances to catch, and more!
Don't forget that all DVUSD schools as well as the district office will be closed for Winter Break December 22- January 5! School will resume January 6, 2026 for the second half of the school year!
DVUSD Long Range Planning Looking Ahead to 2035
DVUSD is planning for the next decade of education for the children in our community. Our 2025-26 Long Range Planning Committee is actively reviewing attendance boundaries to ensure our schools remain strong. By balancing enrollment amid shifting enrollment patterns and utilizing our buildings efficiently, we can help ensure that every school is positioned to offer high-quality academic programming and diverse opportunities for all of our students.
Your Voice Matters! Participate in DVUSD Planning and Budget Surveys
Your voice is essential in shaping the future of the Deer Valley Unified School District. We are inviting you to participate in a survey that will guide both our long-range district planning and the development of budget priorities for the 2026–2027 school year. Your feedback ensures that district decisions reflect the values, needs, and perspectives of our community.
The first survey section supports the next phase of the district’s Long-Range Planning process. In the initial survey administered last month, parents and guardians responded to an open-ended question about what matters most when considering school attendance area and boundary planning. Those responses have been analyzed and grouped into common themes. This follow-up survey now asks you to rank these themes in order of importance, helping the district better understand community priorities as we plan for future growth and resource alignment.
Please note that high school boundaries will not be impacted during this boundary change.
The second survey section focuses on gathering input for the 2026–2027 Budget. Similar to the first Long-Range Planning survey, this budget input survey asks an open-ended question inviting you to identify from your perspective what you believe should be the district’s top budget priority for the upcoming school year (2026-2027). These responses will be reviewed and summarized to develop a ranked-choice budget survey, which will be shared with families after Winter Break.
Thank you for taking the time to share your perspectives. Your participation is vital in helping Deer Valley maximize and balance resources across the district, ensuring continuity and excellence in the educational experience for every student.
This survey will close December 19th.

Hour of AI 2025
Building on over a decade of success with the Hour of Code, DVUSD is continuing with the newest iteration - the Hour of AI - designed to help students and educators everywhere take a step into understanding and creating with Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The Hour of AI is created in response to the growing call to expand foundational AI literacy alongside computer science. Through hands-on, easy-to-follow activities, millions of students around the world (and throughout DVUSD) will explore uses of AI and imagine what’s possible when they harness it for good.
In DVUSD, we partner with volunteers from USAA to lead Hour of AI activities in several of our elementary classrooms, alongside CTE student Ambassadors from our high school Software & App Design program going to middle school campuses. Additional campuses are hosting their own special events to celebrate the Hour of AI.
The celebration of Computer Science Education Week (December 8th-12th) can continue at home with your own Hour of AI! Explore activities: url.dvusd.org/HourofAI

Extracurricular Fees Update
Athletics participation fees have increased for the 2025-26 school year for middle school and high school athletes, as well as high school marching bands and AFJROTC color guard units. See the new fees listed below.
Fees were increased in part because of the failure of the M&O override passage in November 2024 and are now comparable to our neighboring and similarly sized school districts. The increased rates were approved unanimously (5-0) by the DVSUD Governing Board on May 13, 2025.
