Principal's Corner
Our Kindergarten and Grade 1 students were treated to an incredible presentation from Jim of Wingmasters, who brought several amazing birds of prey to share with us! Students met a screech owl, barn owl, great horned owl, American kestrel falcon, and a red-tailed hawk while learning fascinating facts about each one.
Did you know that screech owls use camouflage to blend in with trees and that the “pointy things” on their heads aren’t ears—they’re feathers! Their ears are actually on the sides of their heads. We also learned that owls don’t like rain because their feathers soak up water, making it hard for them to fly. The falcon is the world’s fastest animal, the great horned owl has a body temperature around 110°F and can hear up to 1,000 times better than humans, and the red-tailed hawk uses its reddish coloring both as a warning and for camouflage.
Students were captivated by Jim’s presentation and left with a new appreciation for these incredible birds! Thank you to our PTO for bringing this wonderful enrichment to our school!

Nurse's Notes
Update Health Information: Please make sure to update any changes to your child’s health information, including allergies, medications, and emergency contact details. Thank you to all the parents who have already submitted their children’s physicals and immunization records! If you haven’t done so yet, please remember to submit them as soon as possible. Physicals are required for students in Kindergarten and Fourth Grade.
Health Screenings: Schools are required to conduct vision, hearing, and BMI screenings for certain grade levels. These screenings are designed to identify potential concerns that may affect your child’s learning and overall well-being. Screenings will begin at the end of the month (October). Parents/guardians who do not wish their child to participate in one or more of these screenings must send a written request (letter or email) to the school nurse.
Fall Health Reminders:
Wash hands often- helps prevent the spread of colds, flu, and other germs.
Cover coughs & sneezes- use a tissue or elbow, not your hands.
Stay home if sick- Children should be fever-free for 24 hours without medication before returning to school.
Get plenty of rest- 9-12 hours of sleep helps kids focus, learn, and stay healthy.
Eat seasonal fruits and vegetables- apples, squash, and carrots are nutritious fall favorites.
Stay hydrated- even in cooler weather, water is important throughout the day.
Dress in layers- temperatures change quickly in the fall, so layers keep kids comfortable.
When your child has a communicable disease such as strep throat or conjunctivitis that has not been treated for at least 24 hours with antibiotic medication
When your child has had a fever of 100 degrees or greater within the past 24 hours without fever- reducing medication
When your child has been vomiting or has had diarrhea within the past 24 hours
Please contact the nurse with any questions.
