Special Letter - Please read. Thank you!
Dear Families,
Thank you for the support you have given us this year! We are so pleased to have been able to fund staff grants that directly impact our students' school experience. We are grateful to the parents who have stepped up to make the PTSA happen. We will miss those whose students are moving on to high school and are excited to meet the families of the incoming 6th graders.
As we look to next year we are in need of filling our board again so that we can again fund staff grants and hold teacher appreciation events.
The following positions are open for the 26-27 school year:
President
Vice President
Secretary
Staff appreciation chair
Fundraising chair
Communications chair
Member(s) at large
Without volunteers to take on these positions, we will not be able to have a PTSA and thus the school and our students will lose the support we have been giving them. We recognize that times are tough and many of us are overwhelmed with our to-dos yet we stand strong in the belief that together we can make the load lighter and take actions to make our students' world a bit better.
We meet about once a month during the school year and host 3 general meetings. Linked HERE you will find a breakdown of the tasks and time commitment of each role. This is a great opportunity to stay involved with your student’s school and play an active role in creating a positive and supportive community! We are also flexible – something is better than nothing and we value each other's time. Please reach out if you are interested or have any questions at ptsahosford@gmail.com
We will have our final PTSA General Meeting in the Hosford Library on Tuesday May 12th from 6:00-7:30 (Virtual link will be provided soon).
With Gratitude,

This resource tells what learning activities were assigned in each class. It is a great way to check on assignments with your child. Middle school is a time when students need help developing the routine of reflection and organizing materials. This resource is your support for those conversations.

Library Updates
On Thursday, students across the district participated in a Read-In to promote literacy. Here at Hosford, we spent the end of the day cozied up with our independent reading books. It was great to see so many Huskies engaged with a book of their choice! Did you know that when kids read books they've chosen, their reading skills increase faster? Amazing!
In other news, we're featuring a display curated by sixth graders Rory M. & Shira N. for our adopt-a-shelf this month (see photo below!)
It has been a fun year helping your kids find great reads. We'd love it if you took one more look at our Hosford Library Wishlist to see if you can help us procure some of these titles. We'd also love to hear what titles your students would like to see in the library for next year! Please email us at amahrt@pps.net or kfleming@pps.net.
6th Grade Outdoor School Tips
Outdoor School Tips
A little homesickness is a very common occurrence at Outdoor School. The staff and teachers work to keep children active and engaged in the activities at Outdoor School. Most homesickness fades away after the first night. To help prepare your child for success, before their departure encourage them to have a good time; clarify that “you want them to enjoy Outdoor School,” “build memories,” and “return home with stories to tell them.” For many students, this may be their first extended period away from home. Reassuring your child about the fun you want them to have at Outdoor School decreases the likelihood of homesickness. Don't promise that you'll come to get them if they call. Write them letters about how much fun you hope they are having--not about how much you miss them. Addresses for writing letters can be found on the Sites page.

Measles Outbreak
April 10, 2026
Dear Families and Staff,
As you may know, there is a measles outbreak in Oregon. Per the Oregon Health Authority, there are 11 reported cases throughout the state. Multnomah County reported its first measles case this year on March 26, 2026. In consultation with our public health partners, the Multnomah Education Service District (MESD) and the Multnomah County Health Department (MCHD), we are recommending steps to prevent illness and outlining action steps should measles impact our school community.
What is measles?
Measles is a highly contagious respiratory disease and can have serious complications, including hospitalization and death. Initial symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes and sore throat. Typically, a rash develops near the hairline or neck and spreads to the rest of the body.
Measles can be especially dangerous for babies and young children but can cause severe disease in people of all ages.
Measles may be prevented through vaccinations. Two doses of the Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR) vaccine are recommended for children (typically given at 12 months of age and 4 years old) and are 97% effective at preventing measles for life. Adolescents and adults without immunity to measles can receive two doses of MMR vaccine 28 days apart.
If measles occurs at our school:
Our public health partners will perform a public health investigation to identify any students or staff who may have been exposed, while maintaining the privacy of the individual that was diagnosed.
Vaccination records of those who have been exposed to measles while at school will be reviewed. Students and staff who are unvaccinated or are unable to provide documentation of immunity to measles may be excluded from school/work for at least 21 days. Evidence of immunity to measles can include:
Documentation of measles-containing vaccine, such as the Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccine; or,
Laboratory records of antibody tests showing immunity; or,
Laboratory records of previous measles diagnosis; or,
Birth before 1957
Any excluded students or staff will also be asked to stay home to avoid exposing others in the community.
Recommendations:
Review your/ your students' vaccine records and stay up to date with vaccines. Call and schedule an appointment with your healthcare provider or at any PPS Student Health Center, as needed.
Exposed staff should be prepared to provide evidence of immunity upon request.
Review the symptom-based exclusion chart and stay home from school or work if you are unwell.
Monitor yourself and household members for symptoms of measles. If you believe you/your student might have measles or been exposed to measles, call your healthcare provider or medical office for further direction. Seek emergency care as needed and call ahead of your arrival to avoid spreading the virus to others.
For more information about measles, visit the Oregon Health Authority webpage. If you have questions or concerns, please call your healthcare provider or Multnomah County Health Department at 503-988-3406.
