Irving Families,

Thank you to everyone who came out and participated in our activities last week. Our Parent Appreciation Breakfast and the staff vs. students basketball game were both highlights—events like these really showcase the strong sense of community we have here at Irving.

We have another full and exciting week ahead!

First and foremost, next week is Teacher Appreciation Week. Our staff does an incredible job each and every day, and this is a great opportunity for students to show their gratitude. Please take a look at the flyer below for ideas on how to celebrate, and you can click HERE to view your teacher’s favorite things.

Our 2nd–5th grade students will also begin their spring NWEA MAP Benchmark assessments. This is an important opportunity for us to measure growth and guide instruction. Helping your child get a good night’s sleep, eat breakfast, and arrive on time will go a long way in setting them up for success.

On Thursday after school, our Parent Mentor Group will be hosting a Resource Fair in the Irving gym.

Staff and parents will be sharing helpful information on literacy, social-emotional learning, IEP and sensory supports, as well as healthy living and life skills. We hope you’ll stop by—there’s something for everyone.

We’ll also be hosting our Buy One, Get One Free Book Fair next week—an exciting opportunity to build your home library and foster a love of reading! Students will visit the book fair during the school day with their class.

Families are welcome to shop together after school:

  • Monday (5/4): Open until 3:30 PM
  • Tuesday (5/5): Open until 3:30 PM
  • Wednesday (5/6): Open until 3:30 PM
  • Thursday (5/7): Open until 4:30 PM

Finally, our district musical, Matilda the Musical, will be performed on Friday, May 8th and Saturday, May 9th. It’s always an impressive show and a wonderful way to support our students—highly recommend checking it out if you can.

It’s shaping up to be another great week at Irving. Thank you for your continued partnership and support.

Mr. S

PBIS Booster - Lifting Each Other UP with Kindness 🎈 PBIS Booster - Lifting Each Other UP with Kindness 🎈

In recognition of Disability Awareness Month, we are launching a schoolwide PBIS booster focused on kindness and inclusion. Our theme, “Lifting Each Other UP with Kindness,” is inspired by the movie UP and centers on celebrating the ways our students support and uplift one another each day.

Each classroom will have a “house” displayed near the recess doors, and throughout the booster (April 13–May 1), classes will earn balloons for demonstrating acts of kindness. These might include including others in games, helping a classmate without being asked, or using kind words and gestures that make a positive impact.

As classes earn balloons, they’ll add them above their house—watching their kindness lift them higher throughout the month!

Goal:
Classrooms that collect at least 12 balloons will earn an extra recess at a time chosen by their teacher.

We’re excited to highlight and celebrate the many ways our students show kindness and inclusion. Thank you for your continued support in reinforcing these important values at home as well.

Recognition Days Recognition Days

In honor of National School Principal Day, our students celebrated Mr. S and the leadership, care, and dedication he brings to our school each day. To make it extra special, students showed their appreciation by wearing apparel from his favorite sports team—it was a fun and meaningful way to recognize him. From supporting students and staff to helping guide our school forward, his impact is felt in every part of our building. We are grateful for all that he does.

We also celebrated School Lunch Hero Day, recognizing our incredible cafeteria team. Our lunch heroes do so much more than prepare and serve meals—they create a welcoming space for students, build relationships, and help ensure every child is cared for each day. Their work is essential to our school community.
