Elementary School 50 Announcement

Dear Douglas County Community,

We are excited to announce that Mr. Doug Humphreys has accepted the position of Founding Principal for Elementary School 50 in the Ridgegate Community. School 50 is one of two new elementary schools in the Douglas County School District, set to open in the 2027–2028 school year. Becoming a Founding Principal is not only an exciting opportunity but also a significant milestone in one’s professional journey.

Mr. Humphreys will remain principal at Eagle Ridge Elementary through the 2025–2026 school year. He will then transition to Elementary 50 to begin planning and coordinating the opening of the new school. The selection process for the Eagle Ridge Elementary principal position will begin in January 2026.

As you may know know, Mr. Humphreys has successfully led Eagle Ridge Elementary since 2009. Under his leadership, the school has received several honors, including multiple John Irwin Awards for Academic Excellence. Doug’s 16-year tenure as a principal, along with his experience as an assistant principal and classroom teacher, all within DCSD, reflects his deep commitment to our district. Doug is an incredibly passionate leader who continually strives for excellence.
