Phishing awareness training is a form of cybersecurity education used to teach employees how to recognize and avoid malicious attempts from hackers. It is important for any organization, as it helps protect against data breaches, compromised login credentials, and other cyber-attacks. EPS partners with Sophos to provide this training and testing for our employees. It’s important for all employees to participate in AND complete this training. The knowledge you gain can be applied to your personal life as well!

Chrome Web Store Changes Chrome Web Store Changes

Google announced the end of life for Chrome apps in the Chrome Web Store. Our Allowed Apps, Extensions, and Themes sheet has been updated to reflect which Chrome Web Store allowances will now only work on Chromebooks. These apps will no longer work after end of support in 2025. This change only applies to apps in the Chrome Web Store not apps in the Google Workspace Marketplace. If there are apps on this sheet that you rely on, consider looking for a replacement now!

Here are a few resources and things to keep in mind in the event of another Remote Learning day this year:

  • Make sure you are creating and ending your Google Meet sessions correctly. Refer to the instructions found on the EdTech site.

  • Before a remote day, make sure your devices are working properly. Haven’t logged into your teacher Chromebook all year? Make sure to test it with enough time for our tech specs to help you troubleshoot any issues you might have!

  • Always make sure your password is up to date before leaving for a remote day. In the event your password expires over a remote learning break, you can use the Self Service Password Reset to create a new password! Haven’t enrolled yet? Do so today! Can’t remember your security questions? Enter a Technology Help Desk (KACE) to be unenrolled so you can create new questions.

Web Filtering Updates Web Filtering Updates

Beginning February 20th, temporary sub accounts will be filtered at a teacher level. This should alleviate some issues with substitutes not able to access links embedded in lesson plans.

New extension alert! Staff now has access to the Lightspeed Access Scan extension. Use this extension to quickly determine if a website is open for student level filtering. While this is a quick way to check a link, we still recommend you log in with the demo student account on your teacher Chromebook to fully evaluate all links/images/etc. on a website. For example, while this tool would work well for determining if a YouTube channel was available for student viewing, utilizing the student demo account would be best to determine what is available on a research website with many pages and embedded links. Click here to learn more about how to use this extension!

Google’s AI platform “Bard” has been renamed to Gemini. All staff should now have access to https://gemini.google.com. As a reminder, here are the AI Platforms currently available for staff.
