Rana was the student with the overall most points contributed to any House for the first nine weeks! She contributed a total of 406 points to Pangolin!
Pangolin ended the second nine weeks with 993 points, Axolotl with 910 points, and Capybara with 1,021 points.
We began a new nine weeks and are starting over with House points. Because I no longer teach 8th Grade, our Houses got a little smaller, and we are currently competing between TWO Houses this nine weeks - Echidna and Axolotl! House Leaders for this nine weeks are Brylyn and Cassidy! ~Ms. Hall

NCVPS Parent App and Portal
You can now download the Instructure’s Canvas Parent app in both the iTunes and Google Play stores. View the Quick Access sheet by clicking on the graphic to the right.
Parents and facilitators will need a “pairing code” from the student’s account to connect with the student. Students must generate a separate pairing code (directions below) for each person who wants to connect to their account. This might include parents, advisors, and mentors.

Scholarships
College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC)
FAFSA is the First Step to All Financial Aid:The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the most important step in knowing your options for paying for college. There’s no obligation to accept any aid offered, and it allows you to be considered for federal, state and college-based funding – including scholarships and grants that don’t need to be repaid.

NC Community Foundation
The North Carolina Community Foundation (NCCF) announced last week that nearly 140 college scholarships are now open for applications, representing nearly $1.8 million in scholarship funds. The scholarship application window closes on March 3, 2025.
NC Next Scholarship
The Next NC Scholarship combines the federal Pell Grant with the state-funded financial aid program to form a simplified and predictable scholarship award that’s easier to understand and makes education more affordable for most North Carolinians. It’s an opportunity to pursue the degree you need for the career you want – and the future you choose.
With the Next NC Scholarship, most students from households with incomes of $80,000 or less will qualify for at least $3,000/year to attend a NC community college that covers all tuition and fees. For students planning to go to a UNC institution, they can get $5,000/year that covers more than half, if not all, tuition and fees. And for students going to a NC private college there is a state Need-Based Scholarship for them, too!
Person County Education Foundation
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE PCEF APPLICATION PORTAL FOR ALL 2025 SCHOLARSHIPS, WITH THE NEW 2025 PCEF APPLICATION, WILL OPEN ON MONDAY, FEBRUARY 24 , 2025, AT 8:00 A.M. AND THE PORTAL WILL CLOSE AT 11:59 P.M. ON SUNDAY, MARCH 9, 2025. ONLY APPLICATIONS RECEIVED THROUGH THE PORTAL DURING THIS TIME FRAME WILL BE ACCEPTED AND CONSIDERED.
Our application is now more closely aligned to a "common" application where all students will be applying for consideration of any award in our portfolio. In summary, this year's new application cycle requires email of: (1) a completed 2025 application, (2) copy of summary section of all transcripts, and (3) photo of applicant. A resume is optional. As we do each year, we will hold a Scholarship Recognition event where our scholars will be honored, and many will have the opportunity to meet the donors of their award.

Construction and Access to PCSVA (3rd floor)
A lot has changed over the summer in regard to the facilities at Person High School. Much work has been completed, but much is still underway. We thank you for your patience as the construction takes place!
The main entrance of the building is not available for access to the building. Instead, visitors are asked to park in the top part of the gym-side lot, walk down the sidewalk toward the building that is lined with fence and labeled “School Entrance”. At the end of the walkway, there are doors that are serving as the entrance to PHS while the front is not accessible. PCSVA students and families will enter through the Visitors Door at the top of the breezeway to enter near the Media Center.
Parent Drop Off & Pick Up and Student Parking
For the 2024-2025 school year, students must be dropped off in front of the gymnasium and not any other building location, such as the front of the school or T-wing lot. Carline is indicated on the map below with yellow arrows. Due to construction, students will enter the building at the entrance indicated by the pink star on the map below.
Student drivers will enter and exit the student parking lot by using the Ridge Road entrance shown in red arrows on the map below.
Visitors to the building will need to park in the upper part of the gym-side lot and enter the building by the media center, indicated by the green star on the map below.
PCSVA students and families will enter through the Visitor Door at the top of the breezeway to enter near the Media Center.
PCS Gazette
Please review the PCS Gazette for district policies and procedures related to communication, inclement weather, student promotion and accountability, parent and student rights, non-discrimination rights, volunteering, the PCS Code of Conduct, dress code, release of student information, administering medication, bus safety rules and regulations, child nutrition, and more!
School Calendars
2024-2025 Calendar (English)
2024-2025 Calendar (Spanish)
Piedmont Community College Calendar
We align with the traditional school calendar with PCS; the first day for students is Tuesday, August 27, 2024. PCSVA utilizes the Google Workspace platform where teachers will instruct using both Google Meet and Google Classroom. Students enrolled in grades 9-12 also participate in courses through NC Schools of Science and Math. These courses begin on Tuesday, August 27 and courses for students who are enrolled at PCC will begin on Thursday, August 15, 2024. PCSVA courses are asynchronous on Wednesdays.
Our program is designed to focus on effectively providing a high-quality, virtual learning environment for all students and we ask that families commit to being enrolled for the entire school year. Student engagement is critical in the virtual learning environment; therefore, students will be expected to keep their cameras on during synchronous (live) instruction with their teachers and peers. Attendance will be taken based on this policy. There will also be opportunities daily for students to work asynchronously and having parent/family support is strongly encouraged.
While we are able to instruct our students virtually, all district and state-mandated assessments will need to be conducted in person onsite at our location. Assessment schedules and detailed instructions will be provided in advance of each district and state-mandated assessment for 6-12 students.
