What to Expect In the Coming Weeks

Teachers and staff are officially back at work today. Teams are working hard today and tomorrow to ready the new digital learning opportunities for your child. These opportunities will start on Thursday, April 2. The focus for Thursday and Friday will be to make connections and transition to the digital learning environment.

Starting April 6, Mondays will be used as staff work days to plan and prepare for digital learning opportunities. On Tuesdays through Fridays, teachers will post digital learning opportunities and engage with students over Seesaw, the new online platform. More information about Seesaw, including a guide for families, can be found below.

Compatible Devices for Digital Learning Opportunities

Your child will need a device to engage in digital learning opportunities. The last day for picking up a LOSD-issued device is Wednesday, April 1, at Lake Oswego High School from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. In order to receive a device, you would have already had completed the device survey.

Any web enabled device that can access a web browser will also work, such as tablets, laptops and desktops, and Chromebooks.

Our Online Platform, Seesaw

LOSD elementary schools are using a platform called Seesaw to manage home learning activities and family communication. Please take the time to review the information in this guide: Seesaw for Families.

As you review, please note the following:

  • There are two different apps: Seesaw Class app (for students) and Seesaw Family app (for families). Both students and families can log in online at https://app.seesaw.me
  • Students and family accounts have been recently transferred to the new district wide system. You may need to sign out and sign back in if you encounter issues.
  • K-2 students who do not already have a Seesaw account will be emailed by their classroom teacher.
  • Grades 3-5 students will use their Google Account login credentials.

Helpdesk for Families

LOSD's Computer Network Services is ready to support our transition to digital learning opportunities. Please submit a help request ticket here or go onto losdschools.org if you run into any technology issues (from passwords to hardware concerns). Your help request ticket will get routed to the best person to assist you with your needs.

What to Expect, Looking Ahead to Distance Learning for All

On March 30th, you received an email from the Superintendent's Office regarding the newly released guidance from the Oregon Department of Education. This release moved the original directive from "Supplemental Education and Learning Support" (our current plan that will launch on Thursday, April 2) to "Distance Learning for All."

Between now and April 13, which is the "go live" date ODE has identified for this new guidance, district and school teams will be working hard to develop plans and ready our staff and community for this next shift. Your patience, flexibility, and grace in this rapidly changing environment is greatly appreciated.

This shift in guidance also signals the potential for schools to remain closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. The potential of not returning to school in-person is heavy on our hearts and tough to comprehend, and its implications will take time for all of us to fully process. Regardless, we are looking forward to engaging your students in remote digital learning opportunities starting this Thursday, April 2.

LOSD Meal Service Starts April 1

LOSD is providing free meal service for all students in need starting this Wednesday, April 1. The “grab and go” meals will be packaged individually and available for pick up at any one of the following four schools every Monday and Wednesday, between 10:30-11:30 a.m., until further notice:

  • Lake Oswego High School

  • Lake Grove Elementary School

  • Lakeridge Middle School

  • Lakeridge High School

Recipients may pick up the “grab and go” meals at the front entrance of each school. Students or a parent or guardian may pick up on behalf of a student by showing enrollment ID number or by providing the student’s name. Pick up will be for 2-3 days worth of breakfast and lunch meals.

For questions about the meal service for students, please email LOSD Director of Food Services Christ Hogan at hoganc@loswego.k12.or.us.

Additional Community Resources for Meal Service

Hunger Fighters is continuing to serve all families in Lake Oswego. The food pantry’s upcoming drive-thru service is this Wednesday, April 1, 4-6 p.m. and Saturday, April 4, 1-4 p.m. Please check the Hunger Fighters website for updates and more information. Local businesses and individuals have donated generously, and Hunger Fighters is prepared to serve all in need.

Mountain Park Church is offering free sack lunches to any family in need on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, between 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Families can either register online or via phone. Families need to register for the upcoming week by Sunday at 8 p.m.

We understand the additional hardships brought on by school closures. Please consider participating in these meal services provided by LOSD and our community partners.

Facilities Closed

All LOSD schools, facilities and properties are closed to the public. All outdoor properties and facilities, including playground equipment, sport courts, and fields and tracks, are closed through April 28. Additionally, the number of people entering school buildings will be restricted to essential school staff only. Students, parents, and staff who are able to work remotely will not be able to enter schools.
