Evolv Weapons Detection Systems
Dear Coble parents and guardians,
The district will be implementing new Evolv weapons detection systems at our campus, and began the new process during morning arrival on Thursday, Aug. 29. All students arriving in the morning will use doors 1 and 11 to be screened prior to entering the building.
The Evolv system’s technology will offer an added layer of protection to our campus safety and security program. Everyone who comes to Coble during regular school hours will be screened – this includes students who arrive late, students who return from off campus activities/sports and any parents or other visitors to campus.
Prior to walking through the screening area, students and visitors will be asked to remove laptops from backpacks so they don’t set off an alarm. They will then need to pass their laptop, and only their laptop, around the screening system. Some common items like umbrellas and eyeglass cases can cause an alert, so it’s best to carry them separately or leave them at home.
If the system alerts a concern, a student will be directed to search area where a campus administrator will search the flagged location. Student identification is still required to enter our building. Students who lose or forget their ID will be required to go through the Evolv system before going to the ID pickup location. Visitors will be given the option to agree to a search. If they decline, they’ll be asked to leave.
The Evolv system is being used in other districts around the country and at large entertainment venues, so it is known for screening large groups quickly; however, as our staff implements this new process, there could be a few delays. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work to ensure our campus is as safe as possible.
For more information, please watch this video about Evolv or visit the MISD website.
Sincerely,
Travis Moore
