Corron Mission Statement

Corron is a safe, warm and inviting community where all are valued and empowered. We celebrate growth. Clear evidence highlights the impact we have academically, socially and emotionally.

From the Principal From the Principal

At our last Institute Day, our staff started the day with a Morning Meeting focused on gratitude. It was such an uplifting way to start our time together, and many teachers have embedded activities focused on gratitude into their class meetings or activities with students.

As I reflect on what I am grateful for, I wanted to share my appreciation for our Corron parents and families. I am truly thankful for the positive partnerships we have in supporting our students to be the best that they can be. I have been in many parent meetings these past few weeks, and I always leave the meetings feeling uplifted by the teamwork between teachers and parents. I am also thankful for the many volunteers we have at Corron, whether it’s working in the LRC, organizing parties, setting up for events or helping out behind the scenes. We could not do all that we do without the help of our families. I hope that we will see many of you at our Volunteer Appreciation event next Tuesday!

Community Message from Dr. Gordon Community Message from Dr. Gordon

I wanted to bring your attention to a message that was sent out by our superintendent last week.

There have been many instances of students using racist language throughout our district. Sadly, this also includes Corron. Dr. Gordon’s message is a call to action to the community to educate our students on the impact of racist and discriminatory language. This includes teaching our students to speak up when they hear other students using racist language. Please talk to your child about the impact of the words they use and letting an adult know when they hear other students using this language. Unfortunately, we have had to talk to multiple students this year specifically about the use of the “N” word as well as other shocking language. It has typically been because another student knew how wrong it was and they brought it to the attention of an adult. These are conversations that we need to be having frequently with our children at home and at school.

A note from the School Nurse A note from the School Nurse

Preventative measures remain the most effective way to reduce the spread of influenza and other viral illnesses. Please review healthy hygiene habits with your student, such as hand washing and keeping hands away from their nose/mouth while at school.

Absences from School

Report all absences to the attendance line. Please provide reason for absences and whether or not your child has a communicable or contagious illness.

Keep a child home from school when:

• Your child has had a fever of 100 degrees F or more within the past 24 hours

• Your child has had vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours

• Your child has an unexplained rash, sore or pink eyes with a discharge

• Your child has a persistent, productive cough

** Your child must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school without medication

** If a bacterial infection has been diagnosed, your child must have 24 hours of antibiotics before returning to school

** If your child has not fully recovered or remained home for the recommended length of time, parents may be contacted and asked to take the child home.

Extended Absences: Extended absences of 5 or more days may require that the student present a doctor's statement of re-admittance to the school nurse. For further information on childhood illnesses and diseases please go to Health Information on the D303 website, or contact your school nurse directly at: cor-nurses@d303.org
