Message from the Administrators
Dear Oak Hill Families
Our students continue building strong habits through our 10-10-10 routine—10 minutes each of reading, writing, and math fluency—and we are seeing meaningful academic growth. Writing skills are strengthening, reading comprehension is deepening, and in math, students are increasingly able to explain and justify their thinking. A schoolwide focus on academic vocabulary is also making a noticeable impact.
State testing (CAASPP) is going well for our 3rd–5th grade students. They are staying focused and demonstrating what they’ve learned throughout the year. Looking ahead, i-Ready Diagnostic 3 begins the week of May 11 for all K–5 students, providing another opportunity to measure growth in reading and math. Please continue encouraging your child to do their very best.
As we approach the end of the year, teachers are intentionally aligning all tasks and assignments to grade-level standards, with an emphasis on rigor. This ensures students are fully prepared and reaching their potential before transitioning to the next grade level.
We also ask for your continued support at home with the 10-10-10 routine. This consistent practice truly makes a difference.
For upcoming celebrations:
- 5th Grade Promotion will take place on Tuesday, June 9 at 8:30 a.m.
- Kindergarten celebrations will be held in classrooms on Friday, June 5 beginning at 11:45 a.m.
We hope you can join us for these special moments.
Finally, a reminder for student safety and efficiency during arrival and dismissal: please pull all the way forward in the drive-through loop and remain in your vehicle when picking up your child. Exiting your vehicle causes delays and creates unsafe conditions. When everyone follows procedures, the process runs smoothly and safely for all.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support of our Oak Hill Community!
Sincerely,
Dr. Carmen Madrigal, Principal
Mrs. Blanca Munoz, Assistant Principal

Oak Hill Families,
May bring two big events for PTA - Staff Appreciation week and our annual Spring Fling! Read below for all the details.
Staff Appreciation week is here! The week of May 11th through the 15th, let's make our Oak Hill staff feel special, appreciated, and supported! This year, we will be going with an Encanto theme. I will be sending out a flyer with information along with all of the information you need to know about the staff here at Oak Hill - aka, all their likes and what they need for their classrooms!
Monday: Mirabel Day - We see you! The Oak Hill staff always makes us feel special. Let's make them feel special! Wear your teacher's favorite color and give them a hi-5!
Tuesday: Luisa Day - Thanks for Carrying Us! Teachers and staff need lots of energy to life us up. Let's lift them up by bringing them their favorite treats!
Wednesday: Isabela Day - Thanks for Helping us Bloom! The Oak Hill staff works so hard to help us grow as much as we can throughout the year. Bring a real or fake flower to the Oak Hill staff!
Thursday: Bruno Day - We DO talk about how GREAT you are! Show the Oak Hill staff some love. Write a thank you note or compliment and give it to the Oak Hill staff!
Friday: The Oak Hill Family Day - You complete us! Oak Hill teachers and staff do so much for us! Let's help them by bringing them a tool for their classroom.
Spring Fling Wristband! Our biggest festival of the year is the Spring Fling and it is scheduled on Friday May 29th from 4:30 - 7:30. There will be raffles, bounce houses, games, food, music, crafts, art displayed and so much more fun. Students must have a wristband in order to play the games and enter bounce houses. Wristbands will now be $10.00. If you are interested in being a vendor at our Spring Fling, please contact Ms. Rebeca via email.
Book Fair! Thank you for your support at the book fair! We have sold over $6,500 and what we received in scholastic dollars will go back to Oak Hill students in book for them to check out from the library and take home.
The end of the year is quickly approaching. It's almost time to celebrate all the successes of this year! If you are ever in need of assistance, please reach out to me at regarcia@eusd.org. Together we can do anything for our kids! Go Oak Hill Otters!

You're Invited for our Pop-Up Community Play Day
Please join us for our next Pop-Up Community Play Day! Thanks to a generous grant from the Escondido Education Foundation, we were able to purchase special games and activities for our students to enjoy during a special extended recess. Since February, we have hosted these fun community play days once a month, giving students extra opportunities to play, connect, and build friendships.
We would love for parents and families to join us on our last Pop-Up Play Day on Thursday, May 21st as we continue bringing joy, movement, and connection to our school community!
Recess for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th grade: 9:35-9:55 - Please arrive no later that 9:30 to get checked in.
Recess for TK and Kindergarten: 10:05 - 10:25 - Please arrive no later than 10:00 to get checked-in.
Community School Requirement: Gathering Your Input
We need your voice! As part of our Community Schools Grant, it is important that we hear from our families, staff, and community members. Your feedback on this short survey will help us understand our school’s strengths, identify our biggest needs, and guide decisions that directly support students and families.
So far, we have received 203 responses, but our goal is to hear from 75% of our families. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey—your child(ren) will benefit from the ideas and improvements that come from your input. Thank you for partnering with us and helping make Oak Hill even stronger. Share your feedback about Oak Hill.
Attendance Challenge & Pants Drive: Come & Share Pants to Wear
We are adding a Class Competition to our Come and Share Pants to Wear Attendance Challenge. Classes are voting on what the winning class should receive. Our goal is to reach 94% ADA as many days as possible until May 29th school days. We reach 94% when we have no more than 40 students absent, so this challenge requires TEAMWORK!
Along the way, students can earn fun school wide rewards, including Otter stickers, a scavenger hunt at lunch, an I-Spy game at lunch, Superhero Day, and Otter Pops for all.
As part of this challenge, we are also inviting families to support our Family Resource Center by donating gently used children’s pants, shorts, and skirts. If your child has outgrown any bottoms that are still in good condition, clean, and free of stains or tears, we would greatly appreciate your donation. Thank you for helping us support both strong attendance and our Oak Hill community.
The following classes are still in session after this week:
- Otter News - ending date TBD
- English Classes - ending date May 29th
- Girls on the Run - ending date May 15th with 5K Run on Sunday, May 17th
Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 2nd from 10 - 1 for our annual smART Festival at the Center for the Performing Arts in Escondido. Ballet Folklorico and Mosaic Theatricals will be performing and you can see student art from the Cre8 Art class on display, along with art from Oak Hill classrooms. We would love to see you there!
If your child attends the YMCA, you must sign them out there before picking them up. Even though they are at an EXPLORE class, they have already checked into the YMCA.

End of the Year Anxiety
As the school year comes to an end, some students may begin to feel worried about next year, especially if they will be moving to a new school. There are several ways adults can help students manage these feelings:
- Acknowledge their feelings. Sometimes students simply need help naming what they are feeling and reassurance that those emotions are normal.
- Maintain a consistent routine. Predictability can help students feel safe and supported during times of change.
- Talk about what is coming next. Helping students understand what to expect over the summer or in the next school year can reduce uncertainty.
- Celebrate this year’s achievements. Reflecting on growth, successes, and special memories can help students end the year feeling proud and confident.

Dogs are Not Allowed on School Grounds
According to Board Policy 6163.21 dogs are not permitted on school property or to school-sponsored programs or activities. The only exceptions are service dogs specially trained for an individual with a disability that have met the district conditions. We respectfully ask that when you walk onto our campus that you don't bring your dogs with you to pick up students.
Parking Lot & Safety Procedures
Thank you for your patience in the morning and afternoon in the parking lot. Please follow the following procedures to decrease waiting time for you and out of consideration for all families:
1. Please do not exit your vehicle unless you are in a parking spot.
2. Only our SCSB families with a yellow parking pass may park along the RED curb in the inner loop. Only they have permission to use the inner loop to exit.
4. Please move as far forward as you can in the drive-through loop before allowing kids to exit or when picking them up. This allows us to quickly get more cars through the loop.
5. If students are still in your car, or you are picking them up, stay in the right lane closest to the curb. The left lane is only to be used if you are ready to exit.
6. Only take a right turn out of the parking lot - this includes the inner loop as well. This keeps the flow of traffic moving.
5. If you are waiting to enter the parking lot on Oak Hill Dr., please do not block the entrance to the back parking lot or our neighbors' driveways.
7. Please follow all traffic laws.
We appreciate your help!
