Bridge Building Competition this Friday Bridge Building Competition this Friday

zoom_out_map

Seventh and eighth grade students have broken into five bridge building groups. The Goldfishies group, Xmen, Cheesecake, Glue Gobblers and Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis are the bridge groups this year. Students are working in roles within their groups: facilitator, materials manager, designer and timekeeper. They are using research about bridge engineering and truss designs to guide their bridge designs and building. Students will be testing their bridges on Friday, March 31st at Lyndon Institute in the morning. Sixth grade students will join the middle schoolers on their trip to Lyndon Institute to observe the competition and be informed for next year. Students in grades 6-8 will also have a tour of the Lyndon Tech program and enjoy a pizza lunch before returning back to school in the afternoon. Parents are invited to the competition as well. Please let Ms. Russell know if you will be attending.

Kindergarten Science Kindergarten Science

Mrs. Langmaid has been teaching our Kindergarten students about making observations and documenting those changes over time during their experiment with growing lettuce, from lettuce. Miss Kelly also helped students with their observations by bringing in several skulls and bones for students to observe and talk about the details they see and why they think they are different or the same.

French Elective Projects French Elective Projects

March 10th was the last day of the French Language and Baking elective with Ms. Russell and Ms. Provine. For their final project, students put together presentations introducing the most important people (and pets) in their lives, using the French they learned this semester to tell us the names, ages, and a few traits of their family and friends. We are very proud of the energy and dedication that students brought both to their baking and language studies, and the students should also be proud of all that they accomplished during this elective.

The "Writing is on the Wall" Night The "Writing is on the Wall" Night

Event Information

The "Writing is on the Wall"

All are invited to come join our writing celebration! Read the hundreds of writing samples and see different projects, like the middle school bridges, that will be up on the walls and on the tables of the multi-purpose room. We will hear from CCSUCurriculum Director, Des Hertz, about our Federally Grant fundedTitle services and enjoy free pizza and snacks. Our 7th & 8th graders will also be making desert pizza and possibly a few other treats in the outdoor bread oven for this great community building event. We hope to see as many parents and community members as possible to help showcase the hard work students have been doing in writing throughout the year!

Donahue's Artisan Spotlight of the Week Donahue's Artisan Spotlight of the Week

By Jayne Donahue, Art Teacher

Congratulations, this week's artists of the week are 4th grader Sophia Molleur who's clay sculpture was chosen because of the great sense of detail and use of color and 4th grader Reegan Lumsden for his texture with tool use and his ability to mix colors. The theme for the clay sculptures was a Spring theme and these two students did an excellent job encapsulating that into their work!

Ring the School-Wide Celebration Bell! Ring the School-Wide Celebration Bell!

The middle school earned over 100 tickets for being safe, responsible and respectful to add enough pom poms to take our school collection to the top of the fish tank and earn us another school-wide celebration. 8th grader, Owen, and 7th grader, Chris, got to ring the bell to notify everyone throughout the building the goal had been met. Cheers rang out through the halls from all the classrooms from happy students!
