NORTHEAST EAST
State Beta Convention
The Northeast East Elementary Beta Club traveled to Evansville on November 13th to attend the State Beta Convention. They competed in a number of competitions as well as made some new friends as they roamed around the convention center, trading pins and participating in the scavenger hunt that was held at the convention. Though it is a lot of hard work getting ready for the event, it is well worth it, and we look forward to attending again next year.
Our club competed and placed in the following competitions at State. Even though we did not place in all the events we attempted, we are proud of all of our members for having the courage to step out of their comfort zones and do something new and scary. They did an amazing job representing NEEE!
The results of our club's competitions were:

NENE High-Ability After-School Club: Creativity, Coding, and Curious Minds
The 4th-6th grade high-ability students at NENE have been busy this semester in their after-school group, exploring hands-on STEM and creative projects that stretch their skills and imaginations. Students tackled coding challenges, building simple programs and practicing problem-solving; participated in LEGO engineering sessions that encouraged teamwork, design iteration, and creative construction; played critical-thinking board games to sharpen strategy, logic, and collaboration; and enjoyed maker activities such as creating homemade lava lamps and trying a DIY sushi workshop.
Looking ahead, after winter break the students will partner with the Indianapolis Zoo to complete an animal enrichment project — a chance to apply their learning to real-world animal care and welfare. The club continues to inspire curiosity, teamwork, and hands-on learning for NENE’s young scholars.
Annual Thanksgiving Feast
On November 20th, Northeast North celebrated Thanksgiving together during the annual feast in the gym. Students and staff enjoyed a delicious lunch together. The entire school thought about things that each were grateful for. A turkey call and turkey strut contest was performed on stage as the student body selected the top turkey. Mrs. Rohlfing was selected as the biggest turkey of the year. After the contest, the turkey Hokey Pokey and other dances were done together for fun. The school finished the event with a watch party of Zootopia. (The school will be seeing Zootopia 2 on December 19th.)
“This day is a fun tradition for Northeast North that is enjoyed by all every year. We are blessed to be able to be together and enjoy the holiday,” stated Mrs. McKillop.
CKLA Day
Kindergarten students, parents and family members enjoyed CKLA day at NENE! Creating several different Thanksgiving art projects, playing Thanksgiving themed games, and having a fun cornucopia created snack. The students sang and danced to the Turkey Hokey Pokey to conclude the get together! Everyone had so much fun and many memories were made! It was a wonderful event!
