Notes From The Nurse
Upcoming Annual Student Health Screenings
The Health Room will begin conducting annual health screenings for students in the coming weeks. Please review the schedule below to see which screenings apply to your child:
Grades 6–8: Postural screenings
Grade 7: Hearing, vision, height, and weight screenings
These routine check-ups help us monitor student growth and identify any potential vision, hearing, or physical development needs early in the school year.
Opt-Out Information If you prefer to opt your child out of any or all of these screenings, please email Nurse Reed directly at jreed@ipsk12.net with your child's name and the specific screenings you wish to decline.
Too Much Caffeine?
As highly caffeinated energy drinks continue to gain popularity among middle and high school students, school staff are asking parents to stay vigilant about what beverages are being brought onto campus. Many of these popular cans contain two to three times the caffeine of a standard cup of coffee, alongside concentrated sugars and artificial additives that can pose real health risks for developing bodies. Excessive caffeine consumption in teenagers can lead to rapid heart rates, elevated blood pressure, severe anxiety, sleep disruptions, and sudden energy crashes during the school day—all of which negatively impact both physical well-being and academic focus. To support a safe, healthy, and focused learning environment, parents are strongly encouraged to check their children's water bottles and backpacks each morning, water, milk, or drinks with 100% juice are best.
Traveling Safely
This past week, a few traffic and pedestrian safety concerns were brought to our attention regarding arrival and dismissal times. If your student walks to or from school, please take a moment to review safe crossing habits with them.
For everyone’s safety, students needing to cross High Street must use the designated crosswalk with the crossing guard and signal light directly in front of the school (heading toward Little Wolf Coffee).
This is also very important to students riding bikes to and from school. Thank you for your partnership in keeping our students safe every day!
