Malvern's Mission Statement
At Malvern, we are kind, curious and brave. We learn, grow and lead together.
🍎 Principal News 🍎
Malvern Families,
What a phenomenal start to the 25–26 school year! Thank you for trusting us with your most precious gifts, your children. With your partnership, this week is sure to be just as amazing.
Ask your Red Hawk about our school and classroom agreements and how they can soar to their best every single day. We have incredible scholars, and your support at home helps them rise even higher.
A huge shout-out for your patience during dismissal. Our #1 priority is getting every Red Hawk home safely, and your cooperation with our procedures makes all the difference. You’ve been doing an outstanding job. Thank you!
This week, we’ll have our first fire drill of the year. We’ll continue practicing safety drills monthly so our students know exactly what to do and feel confident and prepared.
Our scholars will begin MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) testing this week. MAP is not a graded test. MAP is a tool that helps our staff understand where each scholar is academically so we can provide the right support and challenges for their growth.
Please review the Parent MAP Letter for more details about the assessment, our testing schedule, and ways you can help your child feel confident and ready. With your support, we know our Red Hawks will rise to the occasion!
Join us in supporting our STIX Spirit Night this Tuesday. It will be great to visit with our Malvern family.
We’re excited to welcome visitors and volunteers back to campus starting August 25th. We can’t wait to see you!
Proud to be a Red Hawk,
Inetra Nelson, Principal & Melinna Herrera, Assistant Principal
Inetra Nelson, Directora y Melinna Herrera, Subdirectora
What is FFA?
FFA is a student organization that helps young people learn about leadership, teamwork, and careers in agriculture. But it’s not just about farming—you can explore science, technology, animals, plants, business, and more! Members get to compete in contests, attend fun events, meet new friends, and develop skills that will help you for the rest of your life. FFA’s motto is “Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve”—which means we focus on growing as leaders and making a positive difference in the world.
You are invited to a parent and student meeting for 3rd - 12th graders interested in showing a livestock show animal with McKinney FFA on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at 6pm. The meeting will be held at the McKinney ISD Ag Barn, 1175 Old Mill Road, McKinney, Texas 75069.

Malvern Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Malvern Elementary Arrival & Dismissal Procedures 2025-2026 - After First Day
Safety is always our number one priority at Malvern. All procedures are written with safety in mind and are strictly enforced. Becoming familiar with arrival and dismissal procedures will promote safety, minimize frustration, and ensure a smooth year. A map is included to help understand the flow of traffic.
First rule when you arrive on campus - do not park in front of the building, or in the bus lane, during arrival or dismissal time. Avoid parking in fire lanes, as you will be ticketed. This will be the expectation throughout the entire school year. Please refrain from being on cell phones while in our school zones as this can also cause you to be ticketed.
Arrival
The doors to the school will open at 7:40am each school day.
Car Riders use the carpool lane in front of the building and enter the front doors (we will have Safety Flock to assist you but go ahead and exit your car, even if someone is not there to open the door).
Walkers enter front doors.
Parents may park in the west parking lot and escort children to front doors. Please say your “good-byes” at the front door. Please park in a parking spot. Dropping your student off in the bus lane is not allowed.
Bus Riders use bus lanes and enter doors on the west side of the building.
Never drop students off in parking lots and allow them to walk through bus or car traffic lanes!
There will be staff members outside and lining the hallways to assist students in finding their classrooms.
Any parent entering the building must sign in at the office. Parents are only permitted to enter classrooms if prior arrangements with teachers have been made.
Dismissal
There are four categories of dismissal:
Walk-Away are students who leave the building without adult/parent escort.
Parent Walker Pickup are students who are dismissed only to an adult walking to the building. THIS IS A CHANGE - Parent Walker Pickup will be dismissed from the exterior door of Hallway E (on the west side of the building), and will be released only to people who have the school-issued dismissal number. Parent Walker Pickup parents may walk to school or park in west parking. You must show your school-issued number to staff.
Carpool Riders will be escorted to drivers who come through the carpool lane in front of the school. You must show your school-issued carpool number in front windshield of the car.
Bus Riders will be escorted by staff to the appropriate bus.
Any carpool or parent walker pickup person without an issued card will be asked to park and enter the office to show identification. We will reunite you with your child! We just want to be certain that only approved adults pick up a child. You will be given 2 cards at the beginning of the year. If those are lost, there will be a $1.00 fee for each additional card. This year, students will be given a backpack tag with their school-issued number. If tags are lost, the replacement fee is $2.00.
Students are in different locations throughout the building depending on how you reported to teachers that they will be going home, so it is important for parents to notify the school of any dismissal changes. If you change plans without notifying the school, be prepared to wait a few minutes for us to get your child to the new dismissal location. If you plan to change the way your child goes home, you must submit a dismissal change request form before 2:45PM on the day of the change. You will need to complete the Daily Dismissal Form which can be found by clicking the button below.
Morning Drop Off Procedures
If arriving by way of the parking lot off of Park Central Drive, it is crucial that parents park their vehicle and escort their child across the crosswalk to the sidewalk next to the building rather than letting children out in the parking lot during school arrival. This precaution ensures that children are safely guided through the parking area, reducing the risk of accidents and ensuring they enter the school building securely. Parents walking their children to the entrance fosters a sense of security and community, reinforcing the importance of safety and responsibility. By adhering to this practice, we can collectively ensure a safer, more organized drop-off process that prioritizes the safety of every child.
If you would prefer, you may drop your child off in front of the school by entering the drive off of Eldorado Parkway. When dropping your child off through the carpool line, please follow the procedures below.
When you reach this sign, please prepare to exit the vehicle (gather backpacks, water bottles, etc.)
The first car should stop here. The child exits on the passenger side. Once the child has safely exited, you should pull to the left and exit the parking lot.
When you stop anywhere between these two arrows, students should exit the vehicle and proceed to the front door. Please do not wait for the car door to be opened for you.

It is a treat for your child to have that special one-on-one time with you. Thank you for understanding that only your child may dine at the guest table. You are welcome to bring food to eat together or buy food from the cafeteria. Be prepared to say goodbye as your child leaves the cafeteria. We look forward to seeing you often throughout the year. 2025-2026 Learning Plans
Dear Parents, you may access the 2025-2026 learning plans for your child's class on our MISD Teaching and Learning website.
Student Library Book Check Outs and EFB policy
Our campus is committed to providing parents with efficient access to our online library catalog. The Destiny online library catalog can be viewed any time by logging into the parent SSO portal. In response to Senate Bill 13, we are enabling automatic email notifications for parents to view what their student has checked out from the Destiny library catalog if there is checkout activity during the school day. Additionally, S.B. 13 includes the right for parents to block access to specific titles within the online Destiny catalog for their student. If you would like to access your student’s library account to view what they have checked out, review their checkout history, or block them from accessing specific books, please visit the Parent Library Access Tool page located on the MISD Library Services website. If you would like to review specific policies related to library materials, please refer to MISD board policy EFB Local. If you have questions or would like to provide feedback on library materials and services, please contact our campus Library Media Specialist Susan Hefley via email shefley@mckinneyisd.net.

Visitors and Volunteers
MISD requires every visitor/volunteer to report to the office to sign in and receive a visitor badge. At the camera outside of the school, please state your name, show your ID, and explain why you are here at school.
A software system called “Hallpass School Visitor Management” is used to scan in visitors. A valid, unexpired state or government issued photo ID must be presented each time you visit, volunteer, or pick up a student. If you arrive on campus without your driver’s license, you will be asked to leave and return to campus when you have identification. A photocopy of your ID will not be accepted.
MISD requires that volunteers complete a criminal background check every school year. If you plan to volunteer anywhere in the building or chaperone a field trip, please complete the required volunteer application at http://www.mckinneyisd.net/parents/volunteer/
Visitors and volunteers may begin serving on campus beginning on Monday, August 25, 2025.
MISD will not offer a grace period this school year for you to complete your annual background check. All background checks must be completed and approved before you can serve on campus. Visitors and volunteers are welcome on campus during the school day (8:10AM-3:20PM) starting Monday, August 25, 2025. Thank you for allowing our staff this time to establish relationships and routines with our Red Hawks before welcoming visitors and volunteers on campus.
